“Fundamental and vital to all health care managerial functions, communication is a means of transmitting information and making oneself understood by others” (Borkowski, 2015, P. 79). It is clear that communication is a major issue in this case. Performance of an employee depends on his or her ability to effectively interact with the superiors, co-workers within the organization. Interpersonal skill is therefore an important aspect of communication. It can be defined as the “process whereby the individual implements a set of goal-directed, inter-related situationally appropriate social behavior which are learned and controlled” (Berry, 2006, p. 13). There was a very poor impersonal communication between Lawanda and her co-worker in the ICU.
Firstly, Lawanda did not know much about how to deal with the case if there were a code, as she did not complete her orientation training.
