As far as my practicum experience at Pacific, I was a little bit nervous and experienced some anxiety working with Dr. Elder. I had heard great things about her and ultimately got the team I wanted, however it was new territory for me. A lot of pressure and expectations come with being a doctoral student. However, if I had to pick one style I practice more frequently from a cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) orientation; with a focus on treating clients with co-occurring physical health issues primarily women’s health. I also use Interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT) because it has some evidence to support its efficacy with perinatal and postnatal women. IPT focuses on symptom resolution, improved interpersonal functioning, and increased social support. I believe in these approaches because of the dynamic interplay of an individual's thoughts, behaviors, and emotions; Interventions work under the assumption that difficulties in one of these areas will have reciprocate effects on the other two. Thus, many CBT/IPT skills intervene through multiple avenues (e.g., thoughts, behaviors) simultaneously, while allowing for opportunities to provide psychoeducation throughout the process so that clients are active and engaged in their own treatment. I remember after obtaining my master’s degree having the feeling of wanting to be a supervisor, so I feel at the end of the this course I will know for sure if that is a path I would like to continue pursing. Under the knowledge competency I would say that the professional/supervisee development is a strength for me. Having taught a basic clinical skills lab in Spanish at Pacific and a mentor to others throughout my career. I feel I have always supported those around me to find their path, develop, their confidence and expand, on their skills, while keeping ethical and legal considerations in mind. The other areas listed are areas that I am hoping this course will lay the foundation
