The WAIS IV is designed to assess intellectual abilities in adults by providing valuable information about a person’s strengths and weaknesses. The WAIS IV examines functioning on a range of subtest, which makes up four index scores: verbal comprehension, perceptual reasoning, working memory and processing speed. The test comprises of five composite scores: verbal comprehension, perceptual reasoning, working memory, processing speed and Full Scale IQ. The Full Scale IQ (FSIQ) gives the person’s overall ability in comparison to others of the same age range.
A person’s FSIQ is not interpretable if the difference between the highest score and the lowest score is more than 1.5 SD (23 points). In the case of …show more content…
This person scored in the high above average range and performed better than 82 % of persons in her age range (WMI=114; 95 % confidence interval=106-120). The subtest that makes up the WMI are digit span and arithmetic. Digit span measure rote learning and memory, attention, auditory processing, mental manipulation, and working memory through three memory task; arithmetic measures mental manipulation, concentration, attention, short and long-term memory, and numerical reasoning. The subtest scores were as followed: digit span: 13 and arithmetic: 12. The digit span score was high average and indicated a strength in retrieving information from long term and short term memory and her arithmetic score indicated that she can use mentally calculate information effectively. The client’s WMI indicated that attention is given to external stimuli when presented verbally and is subsequently be able to retain information unlike her difficulty in retaining visual stimuli due to her visual-spatial skills are not as developed as her verbal …show more content…

Weakness
Due to low average scores in perceptual reasoning index and processing speed, the client may have difficult in interpersonal relationship because she will not be able to effectively read facial expressions and body language because she a low average; have trouble identifying landmarks and would constantly needs to recheck a map to identify where she is going to avoid getting
