The project aims to investigate the effectiveness of interprofessional teams in improving the quality and safety of healthcare. Interprofessional teams are inevitable in today’s healthcare. Interprofessional teams are faced with various challenges. Leadership incapability’s was identified as the major hindrance to their effectiveness. The concept of ambiguity is a critical contributor to leadership failures and role confusion in interprofessional teams. Thus, good leadership was observed to be vital in creating a shared direction and course of action for interprofessional teams. More importantly, the leadership style determines the level of compliance from the followers. Within this context, a collaborative leadership approach is the best approach (Alexander, Comfort, Weiner,& Bogue, 2001).Collaborative leadership is characterized by collaborative decision-making and problem-solving, leadership on the process rather than the team, and open processes. As previously noted, the leadership style influences the compliance of followers and the leadership in general. Leadership influences group activities positively or negatively. The role of the leader in a collaborative healthcare is to create direction and vision for the team through the incorporation of set values, demonstrating and promoting team culture, ensuring appropriate processes and infrastructure are in place, promote role interdependence, provide sufficient team staffing, and promotes communication (Reinke& Hammer, 2011). More importantly, the leader should decentralize leadership to promote the principles of collaborative healthcare. Leadership requires focusing on the improvement of successful collaborative relations by promoting shared supremacy, continuous workforce studying and improving successful functional relationships.
