Interview At A Magnet School
I had the opportunity to interview Carmen, parent of a sophomore student at a local magnet school, Skyline. She recalls the process being nerve racking at first because she felt like there was not much she could do, but just encourage her daughter. The student had to have a certain grade point average, passed all the standardized test, write an essay and have an interview at the school. When her daughter was in middle school, she was a bit above average, she passed all her tests and was even commended on one or two, and she was very outspoken; therefore she was confident her daughter would “knock it out of the park”. She personally helped her daughter get ready for the interview and met with an English teacher to prepare her to write the essay. When she found out her daughter was accepted to Skyline she was very proud that all her daughter’s hard work had payed off. …show more content…
She even explained to me that her daughter was not interested about going to a magnet school and also refused to apply, but she convinced her otherwise. Carmen proudly told me that her daughter was still under age, so she had to make the big decisions in her life and felt that by having her attend a magnet school, Skyline specifically, would be an amazing opportunity for her to expand her typical environment. She took into consideration that it would be difficult for her daughter to adapt to the idea and accept going to a school that would better serve her, but also knew that sooner or later her daughter would understand why she wanted her to go to a magnet school. On top of it all, Carmen wanted her daughter to see that by just focusing and having willpower she could do about anything she puts her mind

When I first arrived at high school, I was extremely nervous. The school was huge and there was not a familiar face in site. A quality education is one of the most important things a human being can receive in their lifetime. It can lead to amazing opportunities and experiences that may not be available to others who do not have proper education. Some families cannot afford the best possible schooling for their children so they have to settle for less. This is not always the case. The Glass Castle defies all statistics and shows the story of how three low income children grew up to be successful in their own way—despite the many obstacles the children face regarding their education during the formative years. The keys to the Walls children’s success can be found in three aspects: 1) Their parents’ emphasis on reading and questioning 2) Their acceptance into the gifted/talented programs in Phoenix and 3) Their resilience during their time in the Welch School District.…

All magnet schools have a theme that makes them more diverse and appealing to students (Chen). Magnet schools use a different method of teaching than traditional schools, where students get to work on assignments that are “hands on” (MSA). In fact, some magnet schools are called “Montessori” schools where students are seen as intrigued children who want to learn (Chen). Most magnet schools accept students without discrimination, which leads to them being more diverse- by social class and race (MSA). There are pharmacological and non pharmacological ways to protect patients in the hospital setting. Using these in conjunction with each other is the overall safest method. Non pharmacological methods of VTE prophylaxis include early ambulation, sequential compression devices (SCD), and compression stockings. Early ambulation promotes venous return and helps minimize length of stay in hospitals. Compression stockings and SCDs help prevent venous stasis. A recent systematic review found that graduated compression stockings, intermittent pneumatic compression devices, and foot pumps reduce the risk of DVT in surgical patients by two thirds when used in monotherapy and by an additional 50% when added to drug prophylaxis (Roderick et al., 2005). Pharmacological methods of VTE prophylaxis include anticoagulants such as low molecular weight…

I say there shouldn’t be dress code for Magnet Schools. If it is middle schools then yes, but not in high school. As it is some magnet middle/high schools you have to apply to get into. If you don't apply you can’t go. I feel like high school’s shouldn’t have to get a dress code because what if you can't afford to buy buy uniforms or collar shirts. That goes for guys and girls because what if you can't afford more than one uniform or skirts for the girls and some collar shirts. It may prepare you for a job to look well presented but not all kids could afford the clothes. The school may look well presented but I feel if they wanted to dress code they should support with the uniforms. So there shouldn't be a dress code but there should be a…

When I was a freshman at Skyline High School Magnet, in Dallas, TX, I joined the Education Magnet. And one of the brilliant opportunities I had, while matriculating in the Education Magnet was sharing my community insight from working with the GUNAA Dallas Chapter, High School and Relations Committee under many great Grambling State University Alumni, since 2008. It wasn’t surprising when I got to Skyline High School that The GUNNA Dallas Chapter’s High School Relations and Recruitment Committee visited Skyline’s campus and started working with many high school students, such as myself, at that time regarding their innovative and comprehensive platform which enabled students grades 9-12 to participate in their higher education program.…

The student that I chose to interview is currently age 25 and completed her special education program at the age of twenty-one. Due to the fact that the student was diagnosed as being mentally retarded at an early age, the mother was interviewed along with the student. In the state of Mississippi special education students are allowed to stay in school under the Exceptional Education Program until the age of twenty-one.…
