Subject: Principle of Management

Introduction Our group has interviewed several leaders, a principal of a high school, a manager of a hydroelectric company and a supervisor. In order to have more objective ideas, we also interviewed their subordinates and designed a questionnaire. We have found many problems which a leader has to deal with. Among those, we choose to discuss about the problems of power transfer.
Problem description This problem arose at a high school. The previous principal of the high school was a great teacher and a leader achieving many medals awarded by the government, he was the principal in more than 27 years. He has changed a poor suburban school into a prestigious school. Everybody from the students to the teachers admirde and respected him. When he retired 2 years ago, a new man, namely X, was appointed to be the new principal. Although the school has already had good teacher staffs and well-disciplined students, it was not easy for him at all.
Mr. X told us the school staffs admired the previous principal so much that every idea he gave out was always compared with that of the previous one. Therefore, he forced them to follow his decision and they did but with low productivity. Because this is a public school, Mr. X has no authority to fire these school staffs; he only could give them some warnings. Some of the best teachers have left the school. “It seems that everybody is expecting for my retirement everyday”, the principal said.
Moreover, we interviewed some teachers to know what they thought of the current principal. They told us that more than half of the teachers in school did not support their new leader. He changed so many unnecessary things, making the school staffs hard to adjust and he used school fund to build and buy luxury facilities instead of awarding teachers at Tet or other big holidays. “We all have no motivation!
