Interprofessional education allows different health care professions to learn with, from and about each other to improve the relationships and the quality of care. This is achieved by allowing students studying to be health professionals to work as part of team on a piece of work and to learn about different health professionals, through debate and discussion. The day started with a lecture introducing a scenario related to the consequences of bad communication and interaction between different health professionals. The importance of the roles and responsibilities for each profession was also introduced. Later that day we were divided into mixed groups in which discussions took place. The discussions regarded the importance of communication between health professionals and between health professionals and patient, and an overall outcome that if the people do not communicate effectively, it can have a bad outcome. In some cases this may lead to death.
I personally enjoyed the aspect of working in a group where different activities and questions were provided. This was interesting as we got to meet new people and at the same time learn about the different health professionals and how they work together. This kept everyone active and this therefore means everyone took part in group the discussions. During the group discussions it was a quite a calm atmosphere. However some individuals were easily distracted, I suppose this was due to certain group members being behind in tasks. I believe, I was able to contribute my time and effort well to the group even though most the scenarios didn’t involve pharmacist as much as the other health care professions.
By completing the Belbin form I learnt, if you don’t become a team with a good relationship between every health care profession you will not have an efficient and effective work. Methods of working together must be developed in order to build up good relationships. To work
