Is Friar Lawrence To Blame For Romeo And Juliet

The story “The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet” is a story about two people who met and instantly fell in love in secret. They are both from two families that have bitter hatred for eachother. Juliet was forced to marry a man named Paris. Juliet said she would rather kill herself than marry Paris. Friar Lawrence was forced to come up with a plan that in the end pretty much killed Romeo and Juliet. But who was to blame for this tragedy?

Friar Lawrence is the one to blame for many reasons. Friar Lawrence was the one who came up with the plan that pretty much got them killed. The Friar also was the one who married the couple without even knowing if they were truly write for each other. Even though Friar Lawrence was under pressure he still could
have come up with a better plan than faking death. By Juliet faking her death she would not be able to see her family ever again or any of her friends if she has any in Verona. Friar Lawrence Should have maybe asked for permission. “Holy Saint Francis, what a change is here! Is Rosaline, whom thou didst love so dear, So soon forsaken? Young men's love then lies Not truly in their hearts, but in their eyes”(Shakespeare 69-72). Friar Lawrence is telling Romeo that it is a bad idea to marry Juliet and that young men love with there eyes and not truly there hearts. Romeo had just been in love with Rosaline the night before and the Friar said it could be nothing more than a simple crush(Shakespeare 69-72).Those are just some of the reasons that Friar lawrence is the one to blame.

Friar Lawrence was the one to blame for a lot of reasons.
Although he is not the only one to blame for this tragedy. Romeo could be blamed for the tragedy for a lot of reasons. One reason he is the one to blame is he drinks the potion almost rite as Juliet wakes up. Romeo could have went to Friar Lawrence and ask what happened before he took his own life when he could have lived a happy life with Juliet. Also Romeo Mary's Juliet rite after they meet each other pretty much. Romeo could have took it slower and get to know her better. If they would not have gotten married so fast they might still be alive. Romeo and Juliet didn't have to kill themselves. That was their choice which It is unreasonable to throw the blame on another person or an issue that made them commit suicide. If they had thought about their decisions thoroughly, they would end up living a happy life together. Also Romeo knew that she was from the family that he hates. It is kind of ironic how Romeo falls in love with people he can't marry because it just makes the feud between the family's worse. “In faith, I will. Let me peruse this face. Mercutio's kinsman, noble County Paris!...” (Shakespeare 85-92)This is the quote Romeo says before he dies. Romeo did not have to kill Paris he could have talked it out instead of immediately fighting which just made things worse in the end because that's one more death on there hands. That's why I think that the tragedy was not just Friar Lawrence's fault but both Romeo and Friar
Lawrence.

So who is the one to blame for the tragedy? Friar Laurence and Romeo are the ones for many reasons. Also a contributing factor could be the timing and communication of the whole thing. Also how Romeo only falls in Love with people he can't be in love with which is an example of Romeo's bad luck. Romeo fell in love with Juliet write as they met at the party which is weird because they are from two families who hate each other(Shakespeare Act 1 scene 5). Finally that's why I think that Romeo and the Friar are the characters to blame for the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet.
