Is Homework Good For Kids Essay
Thomas Fiedman said, “When I was growing up, my parents told me, 'Finish your dinner. People in China and India are starving.' I tell my daughters, 'Finish your homework. People in India and China are starving for your job.” I have found myself going back to this quote quite often when discussing different educational topics, but it seems that a lot of the topics in some way or another brings up the discussion of addressing the homework issue.

Here's What the Research Says, that homework is a great way for students to work independently and develop self-discipline while also reinforcing skills, concepts and information that was learned while in class. As a teacher and future administrator, I will advocate for the students who are required to complete homework assignments to make sure all assignments are purposeful and meaningful to lessons being taught within the classroom. I will make sure that teachers are demonstrating to the students why and how the homework is important to the subjects being taught. I will also use the teachers daily lesson plans to check for accountability for homework that is being sent home. In the video CNN, I agree that teachers have to use a formula to make sure that all homework assignments are grade level appropriate such as each grade level should only be completing maximum of ten minutes multiplied by their grade level each

According to Jonathan Rauch in his essay “Now for tonight's assignment”, the problem with the American educational system is that student aren’t assigned enough homework. The amount of homework a student gets dictates how well they will do in school especially for older kids, therefore, more homework equals better grades but the opposite is true for younger students. Rauch says American students don't spent an adequate amount of time on homework He states “In 1999 according to the national assessment of educational progress two thirds of seventeen- year- olds did less than a hour of homework on a typical night”…

Texas the wildcard of the Deep South widely diverse economically, politically, and culturally, these three factors are what make up the great state of Texas, as we know it today. These factors also are what set Texas apart as a state compared to all the others on her boarders, and in the nation. The two party political systems in Texas has defined Texas since the late 1800’s from Democratic to Republican, each having a predominant rule, but Texas was changing faster than the parties could keep Texans happy. The Democratic Party had a strong hold on Texas and her political stance, simply because the Democratic Party was the party for the white male.…

Furthermore, as he chooses to present a White-centered narrative that pays little attention to both the ideas and the methods of the civil rights activist, he diminishes the historical importance of African American activists in transforming the United States by making it both politically and socially more inclusive. The “Great Men” narrative that Lawson utilizes fails to present the complexity of the civil rights movement and the resilience of the activist, who, despite the numerous setbacks they suffered, continued to fight for their rights. By not paying any attention to the grassroots, Lawson creates a false picture of racial and social progress. He implicitly suggests that having a more or less amicable administration in place would be sufficient to maintain or advance the interests of historically marginalized groups. That is unfortunate, particularly because the article was published at the turn of the century, long after conservative forces had begun to dismantle some of the hard-won reforms. Consequently, a more inclusive approach that depicts the essential groundwork before and after the national leaders of the movement negotiated legislative reforms with the national government, would have been warranted.…

Some students don’t know what to do when the teacher assign their homework. They don’t know what to do because when the teachers assign them homework the night before to do, they spent all night doing it. Then the next day at school they are way too tired to process any work and lesson the teachers are teaching. They would just fall asleep and pay less attention. That causes the student to not know what to do and they just write down random answers. Then when they turn it in the teachers mark it wrong and give them a bad grade. Eventually with all these bad grades in their file it will bring their grades down a lot. This would just give more stress to the students and drain their energy. An average person should be getting about seven to eight hours of sleep a night not two or three…

An extra value of homework is that students get to become independent because it motivates accept the responsibility to do their jobs properly and accurately, without necessarily having a person next to they. Moreover, homework isn't only wasting the student's time but the teachers time as well. By marking and grading homework, teachers are wasting their time. So teachers, please don't blame us the we wasted your time. Some people assume that homework is useful for teachers to watch student's progress but I firmly believe that homework is sent home to test the parents, not the children. I think that teachers can watch the student's progress in school better because teachers don't know that at home who did the homework, the parent, the student or the internet (Google)??????? People also think that homework helps parents to understand that the school holds high goals for students. But, I consider that school work is harder than homework and that means that parents can understand that the school holds higher goals than they think. Furthermore, homework becomes terrible if no one can help you. If no one can help you then you are doing work that you don’t understand, and if you don’t understand it what’s the point having the work that you can’t even do. I really, strongly believe that more kids would stay in school and have a better learning experience if they did not have the stress of homework.…

Since Roberto Nevilis introduced it to the world as a punishment in 1905, there have been many arguments to whether or not homework should be required. What initially started as punishment for kids who messed around in class has become a mandatory task that all students are required to do daily. I’m here to end that, I intend to show you that students should not be required to complete homework for a grade. Homework consumes too much time and leaves no space for extracurricular activities and causes health problems. On top of that, many students don’t even have the resources required to complete the homework. Despite these things, homework is still a graded assignment that if failed to complete, can drastically bring down a student's grade.…

Most of the time the homework you'd get for an assignment is unnecessary and teaches totally unrelated stuff. Homework can also be very frustrating and, in a classroom, you can always ask a professional. However, at home, most of the time your parents won't even know what the lesson is teaching and how to help you. In my opinion, kids shouldn't have homework at all.…

But does homework have any sort of impact, negative or positive for students ages four through eight? “For elementary students, no amount of homework -large or small- affects achievement (Cooper 88). This means that children are often given homework assignments that have no value at all. On average my son receives 6-8 different types of homework sheets. I’ve mentioned before, homework makes my son uncomfortable. Looking at the homework closely I concluded that four of the sheets had minimum correlation to what the study plan was in school. No wonder my 1st grade child is confused and nervous when it comes to homework hour. It is obvious to me that children at a younger age are not capable of completing homework because they simply don’t understand. Keep in mind that not all homes are created equal and not all parents have the luxury to help their child in detail when they get stuck with their home assignments, obviously all children come from different backgrounds and it would only be fair if homework was looked at a little closer in a equally matter for all young…
