Obamacare: Blessing or a Curse?
On October 1, 2013 insurance exchanges opened for individuals buying their own insurance with assistance from the government. This program commonly referred to, as Obamacare is formally known as The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). Since 2009, when legislation was still in the debate stage, people have been beating down bogus claims about the Affordable Care Act. But in the recent months the intensity has been increasing because of what was to come on October 1st.

If anything, the law comes between a person and their insurance company. It forbids them from capping one’s coverage or charging them more based on health status. Meanwhile, Obama cannot promise people that they can keep their plan. Employers, however, are free to switch coverage, just as they were before. Since 2010, there have been persistent claims that members of Congress are somehow exempt from the law. But they are incorrect. Including the requirement that all new health insurance plans cover preventive services and provide new necessary health benefits, from yearly check-ups, to maternity care, to mental health, to mammograms and colonoscopies, at no out-of-pocket costs. (Huff Post Obamacare) Obamacare includes requirements that let young adults stay on their plan until the age of 26, stops insurance companies from dropping someone when they are sick or if they make an honest mistake on their application, prevents against gender discrimination, stops insurance companies from making unjustified rate hikes, do away with life-time and annual limits, and requires all insurers to cover people with pre-existing conditions. In order to receive the new rights and protections Americans must either obtain health coverage by 2014, get an exemption, or pay a fee.
