Is Postsecondary Education Really Worth The Cost?
Colleges have been seen a necessity for many careers and have even become part of the requirements needed for some job titles. As prices to attend these schools have grown, people have begun to question whether it is really worth the investment. Some careers don’t need this requirement and therefore some would consider acquiring education for those careers not worth their time or money. Colleges is more than that though and it helps many people. College is worth the cost because it prepares students for future careers, it is affordable at the right places, and it gives the qualifications needed for higher paying jobs. Postsecondary education is seen as a necessity through the eyes of society because it provides people with the information they need for the career they wish to pursue. Preparing people for their careers is the main reason colleges exist. Many colleges have liberal arts programs which give people the education they need for many careers. Students in these programs often go on to become innovators and risk takers which they learned from the examples they experienced during their college experience (Source B). Colleges know that prices are rising and they help students as much as they can financially. They often provide very reasonable financial aid and with scholarships, the average cost of a public college for four years in 2011 was $2,000 (Source D). That may seem like a fortune and to many people it is, but many colleges provide the cost of tuition on their website and at college visits and some can easily cost ten times that amount.
