Is science more important than art when it comes to learning or intelligence? Based off how the current United States public school systems are built, the answer is yes, knowing the biomes of the Earth is more important than having the opportunity to paint. At the elementary level, students get art and music possibly once or twice a week. The performing arts are not even considered an option in a majority of schools. Theatre can be used in connection with science or other subjects to teach valuable life skills that will improve their wellbeing.

Movement is an important part of childhood, not sitting still in a classroom. Theatre is the branch between learning and moving without being disruptive. Originally, school systems were designed to train people how to sit in one place of long periods of time and do the same repetitive movement for eight hours a day. This was meant to turn people into factory workers that would produce cheap products till the end of time. Today, life is no longer based around factories, it is constantly moving in a million directions. Students want to be stimulated and moving around. That is why fidget spinners became a huge fad that everyone was buying. Putting on a play, allows the student to get up move around and burn off some calories. They can be a ballerina that teaches how to count to count or Indiana Jones discovering and climbing the Great Pyramids. They can get all their wiggles out to then be able to sit stiller later in the day. Their learning does not have to be stunted by adding theatre into the curriculum. Anything can be taught through student moving around a classroom. Students can be taught how to write a skit (writing) about the biomes of the Earth (science) that must be five minutes long (reading a clock) and involves multiplication (math) in some way. Through using theatre in the classroom, students can learn how to effectively communicate, be comfortable with their voices, gain control of their bodies, and expand their emotions. The arts allow us to explore aspects of ourselves that cannot be quantitatively calculated. Creativity and imagination are topics that cannot be graded by a bubble sheet.
