may believe the information they submitted to be accurate and true. The fact that anyone can contribute should reveal to the user that they shouldn’t rely strictly on Wikipedia. The upside to the way Wikipedia was created is that when the information comes from a reliable source it will often be copyrighted and have a link to the original source or list other resources that back up their information. So instead of citing Wikipedia or relying on it, one can go to the original website and see if it comes from a reputable source. Wikipedia tries to keep its content dependable and accurate.
They try to encourage contributors to register and by having guidelines that they encourage them to follow. Encouraging people to only add verified sources and to cite these sources. To keep the peace, mediate, and monitor the pages there are administrators and editors that have been elected into roles that have authority over the pages. These administrators or system operators “have been granted the technical ability to perform certain special actions on the English Wikipedia. They include the ability to block and unblock user accounts and IP addresses from editing, edit fully protected pages, protect and unprotect pages from editing, delete and undelete pages, rename pages without restriction, and use certain other tools” as described by Wikipedia (en.m.wikipedia.org). Though these administrators try, they can’t watch every edit or every page on Wikipedia. When writing an essay or doing research one should never solely depend on information found on Wikipedia. Always back up your research with other
sources.
