I found an interesting article entitled, ‘Relationship between Mood and Susceptibility to Emotional Contagion: Is Positive Mood More Contagious?’ by Naureen Bhullar. I believe her sole purpose was to see if moods around us have an impact on others. If so is it contagious? Naureen’s main goal appears to be focused on the mood and relationship aspect and how it affects relationships.
The article (correlational study-various resource collaborated into one study) was very interesting and surprisingly creditably to the results of the study. By saying creditability I am referring to the extensive research on the topic. The reference list was extensive and thorough. The article was regarding studies which focused on if moods are contagious to others emotions. Well, if you want to know my thoughts before going farther I will tell you what I think on the topic (even before reading the article). I most certainly without a doubt think moods and emotions are linked and do catch on like a plague. People use the term ‘downer’ to describe a person whose mood is negative and bring down others. Maybe, it is our nature to feel empathic toward one another and just pick up others vibes. However it is explained, the information in the article was very informative.
The research consisted of two tests: PANAS (Positive and Negative Affect Schedule) which measures both negative and positive mood states during intervals throughout a period of time and EC Emotional Contagion scale which actually measures happiness, love, anger, fear and sadness. A total of 113 students from selected campuses were used to determine if there was any relationship between mood and if it is contagious to others. Is positive affected more contagious then negative contagious was another good question answered in the article. The students went through both tests. The results were conclusive to the hypothesis of moods being contagious. The happier you are it
