I passed a cutout in the side of the road. I then heard the dreaded police sirens and saw the flashing blue and red lights in my rear-view mirror. This was the last thing I needed. The officer got out of his car and approached mine. He asked me if I knew how fast I was going. I responded by explaining to him the whole situation I was in and that I was late to my second day of class. He then asked for my license and registration and returned to his car. He returned to my car and explained to me that he understands that I was late, partially due to the traffic, but he had to give me a ticket. He gave me a ticket and gave me a citation to appear in court. I expected nothing less and accepted it. It was an interesting coincidence that I would have to miss my chemistry class to appear in court. I arrived in the courthouse early and waited for a long time until I was escorted to a courtroom and was in front of a judge. I explained to him why I was speeding and that I hardly ever drive that fast. He offered to remove the points off my license if I attended a driving course. I happily accepted his offer. Two weeks later I had to attend an eight hour driving seminar. I found this extremely boring. The seminar was mostly recitation of common knowledge that I already knew, such as what a stop sign meant. The seminar made me feel like a bad driver, which I’m not. As the seminar ended I signed paperwork removing points from my license. This made me learn my lesson of speeding. The seminar was far worse than paying two hundred dollars in fines.
