Jeez. Leo thought. What is wrong with her? He looked away from her and back to the man. Leo noticed that his latest technology was a stick, and decided to show him his phone. The man took it, threw it on the ground and almost jumped on it if Leo hadn’t taken it back. …show more content…
Isabelle was still sitting trying to figure things out while Leo showed the man things like high fives, (bad) dancing , how to use apps, and shark pictures.
Sharks were Leo’s favorite animal. Isabelle calmly walked up to the man. “Do you know where we are?” She asked. She shouldn’t tell him, but maybe he knew something. “We’re from Wisconsin. Isabelle and Leo, in the seventh grade. We used to be in the library, but we left, and we don’t know how we left, or how to get back.” Isabelle continued, hoping she would be able to make sense of what he said. “Floim bloo loam. Splar beloi stoiky fumo glamlanco! Ahh?” The man said while he did weird hand gestures and nodded like she should’ve understood and been very helped by this information. “Thank you.” Isabelle said politely, although on the inside, she was raging. She went back to sit
down.
It couldn’t have been too long, but it seemed like forever before Isabelle caught on to what was happening. “Leo! I finally figured it out!” Isabelle said while her face lit up. Leo stopped mid-high five with the man. “We went back in time. This guy is a cave man. We just have to find our way back home so we can finish out detention.” “You want to go back to finish detention?” Leo asked. Isabelle ignored him. “Help me look for the book.” “Iz, it’s not going to be a book. You know, I think you’re smart, but sometimes you are really stupid.” Isabelle was confused.
“See, we were in the library. Books are common in the library. The machine had to disguise itself. We’re in cave-people times so that’ll make it something common now. Like a rock. Or a stick. If it was a book, we would have seen it by now” He said, gesturing to the man’s stick he had set down. “Oh.” Said Isabelle amazed that her brother had just outsmarted her. “Well then. I guess we should just pick up everything. Check everything near us. It should have come with us right? Well, anyway, just check for buttons on everything. This might take a while.”
Out of nowhere, it had to be at least a half an hour later, Leo yelled out “I found it! I found it! Look! This rock! It’s got buttons!” Leo picked it up and sprinted towards Isabelle. “Great. Now let’s go home.” Isabelle set the machine to September 1st so they could get back to school. “Ready, set, go!” She pushed the biggest button and they swirled out of time.
Neither one managed to land on their feet, but they got up quicker than the first time. They got pretty good at staying balanced during, well, whatever goes on when they time travel. Isabelle had the machine in her hand which had turned back into a book. She put the book on the shelf, and walked out. Leo was right behind her. He wished the girl was still there but it seemed she had left. They hadn’t set it to the time they left, so detention was over. All Leo wanted to do was go home and eat. He was starving.
The second day of school arrived whether they wanted it to, or not. Isabelle got ready in a flash, but as usual Leo’s alarm didn’t go off, and Isabelle had to wake him up. They still made it to school on time, even though they had to walk. Isabelle didn’t mind, but Leo complained the whole time.
