Islam In France ( A problem for the European Union or not)
My paper would critically look at the gradual integration and Islamitization of France in the last two decades. Will France remain French? How has the French government halted the rise of fundamental radical Muslims? Someone going to Marseille a sea shore island in France would be amazed by the share amount of multi-ethnicity and cultural diversity. The soccer team of this port city Olympic Marseille illustrates this assertion. Of the 23 players registered for this season, 12 of them are foreign mostly from African countries, 11 of the players are French. Out of the 11 players who are French 6 of them namely Steven Mandanda, Chris Gadi, Loic Remy, Alou Diarra, Rod Fanni, Billel Omrani all have African parents. Multi ethnicity as an Average American would see is quite different from what France faces. The multi-ethnicity includes religious dimension as well as racial and ethnic differences. In America the racial minorities are mostly Christian ( blacks and Hispanics), but in France they are Muslims. France doesn’t collect statistics by religion but most estimates say “Muslims account for 5-10% of the population” The average ratio of birth in a French household is 1.8, compared that to the average birth of a Muslim 8.1. American minorities mostly share the same views with the rest of the nation, but French minorities have mostly alienated values, tend to think of them as a different nation and supplanting their Islamic views on the nation. France’s immigrant population stands for 15% of the total population. It is a fact that France is overwhelmingly a Roman Catholic Country with baptism rate of 84% in 1990. France is also one of the oldest nation-states in Europe and it could be argued that it has one of the greatest and attractive cultures in the World, these attributes has helped France thoroughly assimilate and absorb wave of immigrants in the last 20 years.
