When I was 14, I actually got a perfect score. But I had to have help writing this” (Bradley). Jack was determined to have his voice heard, he had someone help him right this article to let other people hear his voice. Even though he had a slow start, he made up for it with a perfect score on the ACT at the age of 14. However, because of his disabilities, it was required for him to get help writing his article. Some kids needs are met more at home school than at a public school, like Jack. The needs of youth varies from each person whether it's for taking classes slower or being homeschooled. Some of the youth with special needs might be better learning in school by skill level instead of by age or grade. “I’ve been told by adults that I’m not ready to vote even though I keep up with politics, and I’m sure of my beliefs”(Simmonds). She is saying how some youth could be very knowledgeable in a topic or category, but are just thought to be too young to know enough to have an opinion on that subject. People would be more likely to consider political opinions from someone who is older than someone who is under the voting age. We need to give thought to these opinions and encourage them to speak up, to be heard. In schools the higher the grade level the less people raise their hand for the answer to questions. This is probably because the students aren’t confident in their answers, the students were made fun of for answering to many questions correctly, or they aren’t listening or are extremely disinterested. “They ended up finding out that adult pathways were much more constant as if mapped than the younger subjects whose pathways were more scattered or spontaneous or, dare I say, creative”(Simmonds). We need to value the opinions of youth, because they might come up with a more creative solution to the problems we currently have. As people get older their brains get more stuck up on concepts, and aren’t as accepting with new concepts. Adults need to respect the ideas of students and students need to respect
