Summary: this book is about a boy, Matty Doolin. He wants to work on a farm. But he lives in the north-east of England and there aren’t any farms. And his parents say he’s too young to leave. And they say also that he’s too young to go on camping holiday with two friends, Joe and Willie.
Matty has got a dog, Nelson. On a day Nelson barked at everything. Matty’s mother hates that and sent him out. But Nelson is run over. He dies. Matty is very very sad.
His parents want to do something back. Matty can go on camping holiday with his friends. He’s very happy then but he’ll never forget Nelson.
The children are going to a farm. After two days Joe and Willie become bored. But Matty enjoys it very much. He likes to do things on a farm with animals. He works all the time at the farm.
On a day Jessica, the daughter of the farmer, walked away into the mountains. Matty is trying to find her. He brings the dog with him, Betsy, it’s the dog of the farmer. But storm and wind is coming, and he loses Betsy. When the storm is ended he first found Betsy, she had fallen and had a broken leg. Later he found Jessica too. It’s going to be dark and the are going to sleep on a stone. At two o’clock they found them. they’re going to the farm and there are the parents from the children. The farmer say Matty’s is a good farmer. And Matty can come work on the farm. In the weekend he goes to his parents. His parents agree and he’s very happy.
