Jennifer Carner Reflection
The youth of the world can be heavily influenced by people that they come in contact with and some people realize that and try to be a positive influence on them. In early 2012 I was able to meet Rev. Jennifer Carner who heightened my senior year of high school and my church experience as well. She was placed in my church as the youth pastor and was to work with the children in the youth program and enhance the experience. When we first encountered each other, she told me that her first impression of me was that I looked like an intimidating person with a lot of attitude, which I have heard from other people. I was a part of the first graduating class that she worked with and during her time at the church I was able to make a very close connection …show more content…
She did not let that stop her and made my last year of youth church a phenomenal experience. Upon reflection, her style of leading followed the reciprocal leadership theory. She would often come to us seniors for feedback on the events that she held and how she could make our church experience more enjoyable. She would never put down any ideas that people had or make them feel like their voice did not matter. Her mission was to make an impactful impression on the youth community of the church. I was able to learn many lessons from her through her sermons and how she presents herself and everyday life. I saw her as a great leader in the church and will always look up to and respect her for the way she shape my senior year and led me on the right path with her insight of events in my …show more content…
For example Tyra Banks is a well-known model of the more recent years and she has said on countless occasions that Naomi Campbell is one of her motivation and the reason why she started modeling. For one person to have such an impact on another person's life that must mean that they are doing something right to lead the next generation in the right direction. Like many other celebrities she had her own trials and tribulations that she went through like drug addiction and court cases of abuse (Naomi Campbell, Celebrity Central). She was the type of person who never discredit her mistakes, she owned up to them and decided to make a change in her life to better herself. That is something that I look for in a liter someone who is going to change themselves because they know but they can do better for themselves than what they are. I was watching her go through the struggles of a model in the entertainment industry showed me that even celebrities make mistakes they have to own up to. And she's able to put that behind her and move forward in her life and making even bigger name for herself that means that I can do the same thing as

I choose to write my leader profile paper on my high school basketball coach and teacher at Sacred Heart in Ville Platte, Mrs. Stephanie Fontenot. I believe that besides my family she has been the most significant leader throughout my life. At my past high school she was my basketball coach, art teacher, financial math teacher, Rodeo Team/Club Sponsor, and lastly a great mother to two of my best friends. She never seemed to let the stress of being in charge of so many things get to her head. She always exemplified true examples of leadership, and always wanted to show her students and players how they too can be great leaders. She was a great role model to everyone that knew her. As a teacher, mother, and coach, Mrs. Stephanie would be sure to show leader qualities but what makes her so special is the ways that she shows them. She has always come across as a very humble person. She is strong in her Catholic faith and has always taught her students that throughout life we should always keep God first. Growing up in a small Catholic town and school, I have been through many different experiences, good and bad, when it came to being a strong leader while still keeping faith. I believe that her strong faith, while making great judgments for her students and players makes her an exceptional leader and one that I and the rest of our basketball team have grown to admire throughout the years.…

During the chapters that I read of Sarah’s Key, (taken place in the olden days) many events took place. In the first couple chapters, Sarah, was trying as much as she could to take her, at the moment depressing mind off of the horrible situation she was in. She was remembering her friend, Armelle who had always been strong even through the hardest times. Sarah pretended to be like her brave friend so that she could be able to get through the cold and unbearable night. The bulk of the chapters that I read, took place in the train through the camps. In these chapters, Sarah and the rest of the Jews in the warehouse were harshly escorted out to a train station where the Jews were pointed and laughed at by the non-Jews. Once Sarah arrived…

    Jeanette Walls Reflection

Most of the assigned books that I have read in my English classes are boring and dull. I repeatedly took breaks and checked how much longer I had until I reached the assigned reading portion for the night. However, The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls was not one of these books. I flipped through page after page as I read about Jeanette Walls and her interesting life story. The reason that I was intrigued with Jeanette Walls memoir was because I related it to my family. Throughout the book, I found similarities between my family and the Walls’ through Jeanette’s siblings, Rose Mary, and the family chemistry.…

In Alfred, Lord Tennyson’s “The Lady of Shalott,” the eponymous Lady is cursed to spend her life alone, weaving in the top of a tower, with a mirror as her only window to the outside world. Though she is trapped against her will, “in her web she still delights / to weave the mirror’s magic sights”. Into her endless tapestry, she weaves in all the images shown to her in the mirror, such as funerals, weddings, and the people who pass by on the road to Camelot. This creation of art is her only pleasure in life. However, after what is implied to be years of isolation, she becomes “half sick of shadows” and loses her artistic passion. At the chance passing of Lancelot, she cannot bear it any longer and leaves her weaving to look out and see the world for what it really is, bringing about her own death in the process. The Lady does not die for her love of Lancelot, who just happened to catch her interest at that moment, but for her love of life and the world, which she could not experience and, therefore, could not recreate in any way that did it justice in her mind.…

    Celebrities exploitation

First and foremost, it is an undeniable truth that celebrities extend an influence on us. According to Singapore’s local publication, The Straits Times, 80% of the population refers to celebrities when choosing how to dress or deciding what to purchase. This is solely based on what we see them being photographed in, in the media. In fact, celebrities undertake more than this, often utilizing their prevalent positions to instill healthy and beneficial change within our society. Take Oprah Winfrey as a classic example. She is an inspiration to young girls and women hailing from diverse backgrounds, across continents. Oprah has achieved more than influencing and inspiring others. She and her team successfully highlighted the issue of domestic violence, sexual abuse and racial segregation. Besides, in 2007, Winfrey started the ‘Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls’ in South Africa to promote the importance of education for under-privileged girls. Oprah is without a doubt, one of the greatest, and most sincere and genuine philanthropists in today’s society.…

I really enjoyed Dr. Monica Smith’s lecture on what she does here at the college, and I also loved how the conversation progressed throughout the time that she was with us. It was enlightening to know what she does on the campus, and how she has already implemented changes to make the help make the campus more inclusive. Based on my experience with the previous Director of Diversity, I was never really sure what the individual in that position actually did. However, I learned that what she does focuses more on the administration and faculty, which I am happy to know. For example, she stated that, “She trains campus security officers about implicit bias and talked with them about police activity and the black lives matter movement” and how…

Reflection allows an individual to identify the reasons or purpose of understanding the outcome of a particular situation in depth in term of emotions on thought and feeling on the topic area. In addition, Reflection is something that we do implicitly as part of being human, underpinning our identities through a process of negotiation between our sense of self and our experiences of others (Demetriou, 2000, p.210). Therefore, I have implemented this quote in my professional and personal goals I wanted and have achieved thought-out the process of the module. I am no longer a teenager, but I am taking the lessons I learned from Do Hard Things with me into my twenties. I learned that calling and vocation are not about the future but about acting in the now with what God has given me. I can dream big and am not controlled by people’s opinions of what I can and cannot do. I am not limited to my current situation and can pursue people, ideas, questions, and resources to reach farther into the future’s possibilities. As a high schooler, this knowledge empowered me to create and lead ministries that I may not have had the courage to do otherwise. In college, it has continued to challenge me to not accept the status quo by spending three years fighting for a better recycling system, advocating for a stronger spiritual life team on campus, and realizing that children’s ministry is an…

My grandmother displays excellent leadership qualities in her friendships, business relationships, and associative relationships. She has a charisma that makes others feel better about themselves, making it easy for people to put their trust and her and look up to her. Anything that my grandmother commits herself to, she will see it out to the end. She’s a person that is persistent in achieving the goals she set without be conniving or deceiving, my grandmother believes that doing something the right way is the only way to do it. She always uses the phrase, “If you use shortcuts in life you will get cut short”. That phrase has stuck with me until this day and so have the morals and values she’s instilled in me. When I feel like things are caving in around me and I can no longer go forward or excel in things I’m doing it, I call my grandmother for support and inspiration. She always makes me feel like giving up isn’t an option. She also has taught me to not treat all people with kindness and respect, even people who has tried and tried to throw obstacles on my pathway to success. I believe for a person to treat people with something they have never treated them with takes a lot of humbleness and lack of pride.…

I consider my mother a leader because of the type of life she lives. She is such a hard worker and she never wants anything in return. Her greatest joy is helping people, even if it means sacrifice for herself. My mother is truly dedicated woman in everything she does from her job to being the best wife and mother. Growing up my mother always taught my brother and me to be the best people that we possibly could be. She always said that you have to work hard for the things you want out of life. I have never seen my mother get tired even if I knew that deep down she was. My mother has a giving spirit she never complains when someone needs her help or if she sees someone in need. Her whole life has been dedicated to giving from her job, which is taking care of children, to helping out in her church in the choir and food pantry.
