Once a tragic decision is made there can only be possibilities no long certainty. Ted could've avoided death but the man who struck him down could of targeted someone else and ran. The possibility that Ted could of avoided his death is possible but he is also the largest target due to his weight that he carries thus making him a lucrative target for hit and run attacks. Ted could've survived or could have died later on but all that is certain is that Ted did not survive.
4.Jimmy uses the excuse that “He was just a kid at war, in love” mainly for himself. The excuse describes Jimmy perfectly since war is for men not for kids and Jimmy is saying he does not belong at war. Secondly, Jimmy is in love and wishes to return home which further strengthens the notion that Jimmy does not belong at war. Jimmy’s greatest wish to leave the war and seduce Martha and his excuse further implies so.
5.Comedy is the greatest tool to help bring your mood up. Soldiers joking about killing are just trying to make light of the dark events going around them. Soldiers in Vietnam suffered surprise attacks that saw their brothers slain in mere seconds before anything can be done to save them. Comedy is used as a coping method for the soldiers and not used because the soldiers are evil
