Service 1: Dubai Metro usage on New Year eve:
On New Year eve, the Dubai metro was excessively overcrowded. There was huge rush in the metro and the metro stations. The queue for the tickets and for the passage through the turnstiles was extremely long. Some trains were so crowded that they didn’t even stop at the stations. This was something which was not expected by me. Moreover, the other modes of public transport such as taxis were not plying because of traffic jams over all parts of the city.
As per my observation, they were very effectively able to manage the huge crowd by bringing in more personnel at the metro stations. The way the crowd was diverted and the stations were being attempted to be made as less crowded as possible was remarkable. What they could have done better was by making the traffic on road move more swiftly as it was moving otherwise. This would have provided access to other means of transport. Also they could have shared prior information with the public with respect to various traffic situations on road and metro stations. This information should be known to them by past experiences. This could have made travel easier for the commuters.

Service 2: Sandance New Year celebrations at Atlantis, The Palm, Dubai:
On New Year eve, the transport on the Palm was backed up in afternoon itself. Sandance organisers had earlier told to the ticketholders, including Palm residents and those with VIP access, that they would be able to access the event via

What would you do if you were granted the opportunity to own an island? Would you one: take over it, or two: let it be free? This is the dilemma that the United States have to face. In 1898, the Spanish-American War took place, the United States left the battlefield victorious. And because of their victory, the United States had won two islands, Cuba and the Philippines. The United States weren’t really interested in Cuba, which quickly became off their list, but the Philippines? This quickly become a problem for the U.S., many people thought that we should just annex the Philippines, but others like Andrew Carnegie and Grover Cleveland thought we shouldn’t annex them or it would make the U.S. look like an empire. To annex simply means to make part of, join. People against the annexation, were known as anti-imperialists. In the end the United States did annex the Philippines. But should the United States of annexed the Philippines? Was it the right choice? Yes, the United States made the right choice and annexed the Philippines to make their life better.…

Share gains to drive above-industry growth On December 19, we estimate ACN to post 1Q13 revs of $7.34bn (+3.8% Y/Y, +6.8% cc) and EPS of $1.06. With the IT spending environment remaining mixed as 2013 nears (early indications suggest flat budgets next year), we continue to believe that ACN will continue above-market growth from share gains through transformational engagements and industry-specific BPO growth. The key for further upside in ACN shares will be a clear bottoming of Consulting with an expected rebound looking more likely in 2HFY13. We believe ACN will reiterate FY13 guidance, potentially shading the high end of its EPS range. We maintain our Buy rating and $75 target price.…

Every citizen in every city, town, state and borough all around the world use public transport on a day-to-day basis. Surely this would indicate that at least one city, town, state or borough in the whole world would be able to successfully reach a bus stop on time. That would make sense wouldn’t it? However, wherever you go in the world – whether that be in London, New York, Paris or Tokyo – I am certain you would find one thing in common with their public transport system; they are all utterly horrendous. This fact is true even without all the additional problems, and there are quite a few of those, to say the least. If you have the great misfortune to live or work in London, you will know that public transport workers can’t go a week without declaring they will be going on strike about one thing or another. “What’s the problem now?” and “What are they complaining about this time?” are frequent questions you will hear floating around London; like the grey, smoky fog that lingers in its once blue skies. As if this wasn’t enough, you then have road works and cancelled trains to contend with. And don’t even get me started on taxi’s supposedly taking the ‘’short cut’’.…

As I went about my day I never thought I would see anything other than dirt and shovels. Who would have thought while planting flowers you could find history? While I was shoveling away I hit something that didn’t feel like dirt. As I looked closer, I saw something that was tan. I carefully crouched down and started digging with my hands to loosen the dirt around what came to be a pot and animal hide. I was so intrigued that I kept digging carefully but quickly.…

Since the daily passenger flow is around 1 million, there is approximately 0.4-0.5 million people use the metro system as main transportation tool. That is to say only 10% of the population is covered by the metro system. Ticket price is in a flat rate which is $0.95. So nowadays the revenue is around 0.95 million dollars daily. Suppose the ticket price stays same and the expansion of metro system covers 1-2 million more people, the revenue will approximately doubles to over 2 million dollars daily. On the other hand, the cost of metro system expansion is also high, up to 300 million dollars per kilometer. However, the cost can be recovered by servicing huge passenger flows due to World Cup and Olympics in the near future.…
