Communicating with others effectively is a very important skill to learn. For me this was a skill that I did not have. I would always blow up when someone would say something that I did not like. Instantly I was ready to fight. But I learned to seek help and talk to …show more content…
staff for guidance concerning my anger and how to think before I react to certain situations. My peers and friends would always encourage me to do better and follow the career success standards on effective communication in the work place. Another big piece to the puzzle on communicating effectively, consist of listing and getting positive feedback for my peers. They also helped me through this process, by telling me every day to focus on yourself and take pride on what I do.
Staying focus and completing my assignments on time was another lesson learned and an experience to be taught.
When I first came to Job Corps, I was not discipline or focus on school or work. I would always makes excuses or find something to distract me from doing what I was supposed to be doing. Most of the time I usually be out smoking hanging with my friends instead of being in school getting my education like I suppose to be doing, But Job Corps is one of those hands on environment that made learning fun. This was another turning point in my life. When I first got to Job Corps, I felt very welcomed to the program, but I was scared because I didn’t know anybody there and I felt alone. But as the days went by, I started talking to some people and they made me feel very comfortable. My counselor Ms. Bean always influenced me to think positive and be respectful, every since then I always stayed focused on everything. I remained calm every time somebody said something about me that I didn’t
like.
Completing my assignments was another thing I had to learn, I learned how to stay focus on all of my work and avoid interruptions during class, Paying attention in class is has helped me a lot, because there was a lot of things that I couldn’t do that I know how to do know. I use to smoke a lot but now I’m a changed person now because of Job Corps, But I’m very happy that I came to Finch Henry Job Corps so that I could get my life together and not go back to the old me. Completing assignments was a challenge for me because it was hard to stay focus on my work with all the distractions going on in class But when I leave I’m going to miss all of the staffs because they encouraged me every day and helped me though out the program and I thanked them for that. But these are the three things that I’ve did to change my whole life around.
