Theoretical Background This study is mainly focused on theories and concepts regarding absenteeism among employees. According to the book written by S. Philbeam and M. Corbridge, “Absence from work cannot be eliminated, nor would this be a desirable aim, but employee absence can be proactively managed in the context of the needs of the organization and the needs of the individual employees.” With that statement alone of these two authors, it is understood that, indeed, it is beneficial enough to know more about absenteeism and how it affects the organization and what are the factors that causes it. Regardless of the type of industry or company, absenteeism is indeed inevitable. This happens even in the most prestigious and expanding companies. Absenteeism is the habitual non-presence of an employee at his or her job. Possible causes of absenteeism include job dissatisfaction, ongoing personal issues and chronic medical problems. Regardless of the cause, a worker with a pattern of being absent may put his reputation and his employed status at risk. (www.investopedia.com). From the business standpoint of Wayne Cascio in his book Managing Human Resource: Productivity, Quality of Work Life, Profits, “Absenteeism is any failure of an employee to report for or to remain at work as scheduled, regardless of reason.” Which
