John Bayley: Managing Behaviour
A conversation with John Bayley – Managing Behaviour, states that all students must clearly understand what is expected from them and a maintain a continuous dialogue of what teachers’ expectations are. Mrs. K demonstrates this very well with the class by consisting remaindering the class what the voice level should be and the task at hand. Mrs. K steers away from using negative phrases and words when giving discussing the lesson and giving directions. I observed when a student gave an incorrect answer to a question, Mrs. K used the phrase “Can anyone help out Zarin?” instead of saying “no” or “incorrect”.
John Bayley mentions the importance of telling students what not to do now inputs the idea in their heads. Mrs. K uses selective language
when correcting students. I observed when students were sent back to their seats for group work, two students ran. Mrs. K addressed this manner in calling back both students to carpet and said, “try that again with walking feet” or “show me what it looks like to go back to seats with a calm body”.
