Christopher Columbus, an Italian explorer, born in the year 1451, voyaged across the Atlantic in search of a westward passage for direct trade with Asia in 1492. With burning ambitions, Columbus traveled to claim wealth and power for Spain and to convert the “pagans” of the New World to Christianity. Following in Spain’s footsteps to expand their country’s empires to the Americas, France, Portugal, and the Netherlands would send elite navigators to venture across the Atlantic Ocean in hopes to claim land and acquire power, only to soon realize a gigantic landmass blocked the western route. In addition, the English were also interested in the New World’s offers to its country; multitudes of opportunities to become rich and powerful, as well as offering an expedition that seemed promising with the abundance of information that came about from other European countries’ past voyages and various maritime technological advancements.…
Christopher Columbus was an explorer from Europe who was said to have discovered America. When he got here the land was already in habited by a group of people. The Native Americans were the first known group to inhabit the land which is now known as North America. When Christopher Columbus got there and discovered the Native people he was fascinated by what he saw. His first impression of the American people was that he was fascinated by the way they lived, he says they are uneducated fools, and that they had great physical standards.…
Christopher Columbus was on his fourth voyage and he was looking for a way to China. That’s when he came across the country named Panama, which stretches only 60 miles, where he found Indians who had tons of gold. But he was looking for a way to China so he sent his brother Bartholomew to search for more gold. At first Indians were willing to lead the Spaniards to the gold, but eventually they got tired and led the Spanish back to the coast. When the Indians did this they were abused. Eventually the Indians fought back and drove of the Spanish.…
In the era of exploration, wealthy monarchies devoted and funded expeditions to spread the Catholic religion, gaining fortune and wealth, but most importantly gain uncivilized and unclaimed territory. Wealthy empires, such as the Spanish and the Portuguese, funded historic explorers for example, such as Pizarro and Magellan, to expand and connect two distinct worlds. One of the first explorers to set foot in North America, who sailed the ocean blue in 1492 was the Italian explorer, Christopher Columbus. As they sailed on August and reached their destination in October, the two-month expedition led them to the Caribbean island where all of his men believed it was India. There Columbus and his men discovered a new civilization, the Taino.…
Even though, his various voyages were helpful, he did not accomplish what he wanted to do since he did not reach Asia. Furthermore, he has gained land for his country since the Eastern coast of Canada was still not developed by Native Americans. Even though John Cabot did not go back to his country after his second voyage, he was honored with a university (John Cabot University) and a statue of him in the port of Bristol. Lastly, he was a courageous man due to him always trying to explore the “unknown “and never being afraid what situations he might face in the ocean. I know this because in the text( URL shown in the bibliography) it says “In February 1498 he was given consent to continue by making a new voyage, to North America” and “In May 1498, John Cabot left off the port of Bristol…” This shows that John didn’t wait that much and quickly obtained what he needed and didn’t wait at all for any other thoughts to come which shows that he is very courageous to discover new…

In 1492, Christopher Columbus ‘discovered’ America: land already inhabited by Native Americans. During this period, called The Age of Exploration, Europeans voyaged across the Atlantic Ocean for gold, God, and glory. History textbooks should include both the positive and negative consequences following Columbus’ arrival to the Americas.…
Columbus, while credited with discovering America, was not the first person to step on the soil. Native Americans had inhabited the land years and years before Columbus arrived. In addition to that, Columbus also stumbled upon America on accident as he was actually trying to get to India. Once he got to the New World, his actions could be described as…
From the late 1400’s to the sixteenth century, European kings and queens were overwhelmed by, what is now known as, the Age of Discovery. With all the extensive overseas exploration by European nations trying to colonize on foreign land and globalize, many explorers took their chance to propose an idea for voyage. Arguably one of the greatest sails man and captain in history, Christopher Columbus first proposed his idea to sail west into the Atlantic Ocean to Portuguese royalty, where it was rejected. With his vision and persistence, he then approached Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand of Spain to propose his ideas and plans, where it was accepted in 1492, and the world was never to be the same again. It was because of Columbus that the New…

When Columbus first travelled across the atlantic ocean, he was in search of India. What Columbus did find was not India, but was the land millions of people now call the United States of America. The first man of the shop to spot land was to receive a yearly pension of 10,000 maravedis for the rest of their life. Christopher Columbus claimed he spotted land first when, in fact, a man by the name of Rodrigo spotted the moon shining on the sand. Rodrigo never received the pension because Columbus took it from Rodrigo. When the crew reached land, the Arawak Indians would swim out to greet the foreigners and offered hospitality to them.…
