John From The Pigman
The Pigman is written by Paul Zindel, in 1986. John, Lorraine and the pigman are the main characters. I will be focusing on John for this essay. The pigman is partly set at johns and Lorraine’s school called Franklin High. It is also set at the Pigman’s house and the zoo. I chose to talk about John because I think there is a lot to talk about since he changed the most out of the three.
John is a very handsome guy according to Lorraine in the Pigman. He is about six feet tall and has blue eyes. He has long brown hair, and he is very skinny. As said in the book, his eyes are large and it feels like he stares right through you.
John is a very complicated guy. He refers to the teachers as retarded. “he thinks we’re using the type writer to copy

As Laurell K. Hamilton, a famous American fantasy writer, once said, “There are wounds that never show on the body that are deeper and more hurtful than anything that bleeds.” This quote directly applies to the little-dark-puppy-kicked-too-many-times character named Johnny Cade from S.E. Hinton’s timeless novel The Outsiders, who has both mental and physical scars from his horrific beating at the hands of the Socs -which not only linger upon his skin, but also penetrate his heart. In chapter two of this engaging and teen-centered novel, we dig deeper into the past of Johnny Cade’s life, thanks in part to a captivating first-person flashback from Johnny’s fellow Greaser, Ponyboy Curtis. While Ponyboy and his fresh friend Cherry Valance, a Soc…

One way responsibility is seen in The Pigman is when John and Lorraine take responsibility for their lies. Well, at the beginning of the book, we learned that John is a frequent liar. He lies to get out of trouble. So he told Mr. Pignati that they are charity workers. Later on in the book, John reveals that him and Lorraine aren't adult charity workers and says, “ We just had to be honest with you because we like you more than anyone we know.” (Zindel 102) That quote showed that John was really starting to care for Mr. Pignati and he didn’t want to live his life on one big lie. In this way, John…

One of the biggest reasons The Pigman should be banned because it has a lot of drug and alcohol use. On page 45 it says “John jumped at my outburst and then slowly sipped his beer.” This is showing that John is drinking under age. This might show the reader that it is okay to drink underage. Another reason to show that this book uses drugs is on page 2 “I was never as surprised as the poor guy who were in the boys’ John on the first floor sneaking a cigarette, because the boys’ John is right next to the Dean's office…

The Pigman, written by Paul Zindel, is about two high school students who were playing a simple game that turned into something much more. Not only did it lead to endless memories, it also led to the death of a human being. John and Lorraine are both in high school, and they were playing a game with their friends Norton and Dennis. The objective was to call a random stranger, and stay on the phone for as long as possible. The group became proficient at this game as they played it very often. John acts differently when he is in school than when he is out of school. In school, John doesn't care about of his grades and usually does not do his homework. He does pranks such as setting off pocket-sized bombs in the bathroom to gain attention to himself. He could care less about what he is learning at school. The first few sentences of the book are, “I used to really hate school when I first started at Franklin High. I hated it so much the first year they called me the Bathroom Bomber. Other kids got elected G.O. President and class secretary and lab-squad captain, but I got elected the Bathroom Bomber” (Zindel 1). He says “hate” multiple times to emphasize how much he truly dislikes school. It gives the reader a negative connotation with his experiences of school. He is nicknamed and…
