John Madden's Video Game
John Madden and his Video Game
John Madden once said, “Discipline is knowing what you're supposed to do and doing it as best you can... On third down and short yardage, the Raiders don't jump offside. That's discipline - not a coat and tie, not a clean shave.” John Madden was a football player in the NFL. He was drafted in 1958, by the Philadelphia Eagles, but an injury in his first season ended his career. Later he became the Oakland Raiders Linebackers Coach. After two seasons, he was selected to be the head coach of the Oakland Raiders in 1969. Madden began broadcasting after retiring from coaching in 1979. He broadcast for Fox and won 16 Emmy Awards. He was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 2006. In 1988, John Madden released his first video game called “Madden NFL”. John Madden has been

Strat-O-Matic is a simulation of pro football, and is an interactive way to feel the grief of pro football coaches. Players are rated by how well they can run, pass, catch, block sack the QB, stop the run, and stop the pass by choosing the play type rather to pass or to run, which player to throw it to, and who is going to run. Later, came along Hawkins and EA. In 1982, Trip Hawkins founded EA, which has developed into one of the biggest video game companies today. One year later, EA made an innovated basketball game called “Dr. J and Larry Bird Go One-On-One”. Soon after Hawkins approached John Madden about helping him make a new football video game. “Their effort paid off, giving them what would become perhaps the all-time best-selling video game franchise in America” (Parish 3). This helps the thesis statement because it tells why over time Madden sold over 100 million copies. In return, Madden would get his name and face on the cover. Madden accepted, except he has on stipulation. ‘“If it’s not 11-on-11, it’s not real football. That was a deal breaker. If it was going to be me, and

Every season, the National Football League (NFL) has 32 teams all grinding out the 16 games for one of 12 playoff spots, which means a chance to be crowned Super Bowl champion. For many years, it seemed the same 12 teams were in these spots, while 20 other teams fell further and further behind in making a push to be a contender in a very difficult league. The last few years, however have been different as some teams have risen to new heights while others have fallen from the promise land to a dismal ending. A number of factors contribute to why this is happening; the largest reason behind this is the play of their current…

Just months ago, the game developers at 2k Sports released another NBA game to the number one selling basketball franchise in video games. This time it was released as regularly for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 but was also released with the unveiling of the next generation gaming consoles, the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4. This allowing for much advanced changes in graphics and all that they could put into their latest version of the leading video game selling franchise in basketball. All video gamers who enjoy sports games should take a big look into NBA 2k. Up to date, it carries with it the best graphics that I have come across in a sports video game, along with the most incredibly realistic and true gaming experience in comparison to the sports league that it is attempting to reflect.…

The Best Game Ever, by Mark Bowden, was a great book that talks about the 1958 NFL Championship game that helped transform the NFL into what it is today. It has exceeded all my expectations of the book and truly shows the impact this game had on the NFL. This was the first ever football game that was a national event, this was the first ever professional football teams viewed by millions. It would also be the first sudden death overtime game ever played in the NFL, Making the game that much more exciting. In 1958 Johnny Unitas, the Colt’s star quarterback and league’s Most Valuable Player award winner, was making $17,500 for the year, five years later Joe Namath would be earning $427,000 for the year, and this stat truly shows the impact this game had on the NFL. The game even had an impact on the author, he and every other kid in the world wanted Johnny Unitas’ high top cleats growing up, everyone wanted to be him. This was the beginning of athletes becoming celebrities in society. I was surprised to see that football wasn’t very popular back then, before this game football was a joke compared to our country’s pastime, baseball. Football is now easily the country’s most popular sport, organizations would grow to be more lucrative and be worth more than many small countries. I did expect the book to talk more about the actual game though, most of the book just talks about the teams and all the players on the team’s lives and what happened leading up to the game. Very little of the book is the actual game, there is also a good amount of the book talking about what happened to the players after the game, unfortunately, half of the players from that great 1958 Colt’s team are no longer around today. The players who are fortunate enough to still be alive today talk very fondly of the team and say it was the time of their lives. The author wrote the book to show others the transformation of the league and how it affected the nation, including himself. The…

It was on this day that the American Football League (AFL) and the National Football League (NFL) decided merge and become the National Football League. Otherwise known as the NFL, this merge combined two very different leagues, one a high-flying passing type of game and one a grind it out running style of game. In the novel “Football Factory” written by John King, we follow a group of Chelsea hooligans in the present England. I think of this novel as an extremely realistic and kind of frightening novel. Together, we follow the main character’s life as a football hooligan. The life of the main character is filled with violence, alcohol and sex, in which his lovely friends accompany him. Through the novel we are bound to listen to his friends’ nasty thoughts and actions. At some point in the novel the main character and the boys watches the film Clockwork Orange, as they have done so many times before. The Clockwork Orange is basically just a couple of guys giving beatings and rapes women for the fun of it. This makes me think of…

He begins with the fact that the video game and film industries both take money from companies that make firearms to feature their products. The U.S. military then uses the video game Call of Duty for recruitment and training. It’s no use arguing whether the media, the military, or the gun industry are responsible for rates of violence, he observes, since they’re in cahoots. These extreme examples intersect with the everyday, mundane lessons about the importance of being “real men” that boys and men receive from the media and their peers, parents, coaches, and more.…

Football is more than just the annual Superbowl, or large men tackling each other for money. Football has paved away futures to individuals where they thought all hope was lost. Football paved an extraordinary future to the All-American NFL's, Michael Oher. Oher was introduced by Michael Lewis, in his book “The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game.” The book revolves around the life of Michael Oher, who had a rocky past but seemed to look past all of that, and become one of the most known NFL players. Born and raised in the streets of Memphis, Tennessee; Oher was one of twelve children born to a cocaine addict of a mother. As a kid, he repeated his first years of school and put into foster care at the age of seven. He had been in and out of foster care homes, and attended a total of eleven different schools. He had been living with auto-mechanic, Tony Henderson, where Oher enrolled at Briarcrest Christian School. It was at this school where Oher was coached by Hugh Freeze and Tim Long, started playing football and made title Lineman of the Year. In 2004, he was adopted by Leigh Anne and Sean Tuohy. Where they worked with him, to help him receive scholarships from…
