John Paul Jones's Heroic Life

John Paul Jones lived a very heroic life. He saved many people, all in one night. Jones changed history. He changed history because he stole the advantage that the British had on America. Without Jones’ actions, the U.S. might not have won the war, and the people on his ship would have died overnight. Jones’ life before the war was just like anyone else’s. John Paul Jones was born in Kirkbean, Scotland, on July 6th, 1747 (biography.com). Ever since birth, Jones was a sailor at heart. He was born to sail. His first time at sea was when he was 12 years old. He grew up watching his father work on boats, which is where he learned his knowledge of sailing. In 1788, Jones was asked by Catherine the Great to join the Russian Navy. He accepted, but requested that he became rear admiral. In 1789, John Paul Jones was discharged from the Russian Navy, and he returned to Paris. How would things go if a hero was forgotten about after their death? Things would probably not go very good. However, this happened to John Paul Jones, and things went fairly well. Jones died in the midst of the French Revolution. He died on July 18th, 1792 in Paris, France. He died without receiving commission from Jefferson. Although today John Paul Jones is generally considered among the greatest American Naval Heroes, and the founder of the American Naval Tradition, his grave was forgotten until the Ambassador of France found it in 1905. John Paul Jones’ remains were then moved to Annapolis and since 1913 have been enshrined in a crypt at the U.S. Naval Academy. What makes John Paul Jones a hero? John Paul Jones was a brave, smart, and strong man; just like a hero would be. Jones is a hero because he didn’t let the British get the advantage. He destroyed the Serapis, which was one of the U.S.’s goals. If he had not done what he did, the people on his ship would have died, and the U.S. wouldn’t have had such a great achievement.
