The other reason I chose St. Paul was because just everything about him intrigues me. Just his life and how he began as Saul a person who persecuted Christians and hated them, and how he transformed almost into one of the main reasons Christianity is as wide spread as it is now. was most likely born between 5 BC and 5 AD. Paul was born into an extremely devoted Jewish family. He was later sent to Jerusalem where he attended the school of Gamaliel where he learned to read and write extremely well. While Paul was growing up he learned to despise Christianity because it defied the religion he had grown up with and loved.
This caused Paul to go out and search for Christians so he could persecute them, he even attended the first Christian martyr St. Stephan die. But one day while on the road to Damascus to find more Christians to persecute he suddenly was blinded by a great light and fell off of his horse. He even say the risen lord and Jesus said to him, “Saul, Saul why do you persecute me?” Then Paul replied, “Who are you Lord?” Jesus replied, “I am Jesus, the one you have been persecuting.” Paul lost is sight for 3 days and had to be led to Damascus by hand. While Paul was there he didn’t eat or drink anything, he only sat and prayed to God. When Ananias arrived to see Paul he laid his hands on Paul and said, “Brother Saul, the Lord, [even] Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost." Immediately Paul’s sight was restored and he got up and went to get
baptized.
Paul then began to travel around the Mediterranean and spread the good news of Jesus’ resurrection and Gods healing. He did this in the three missionary journeys. After these he travelled to Jerusalem where he was arrested and later beheaded. Paul died around 110 A.D. Paul is one of the main reasons Christianity is so widespread today.
