The way someone presents himself can be deceptive in trying to influence your perception, and ultimately, your judgement. “Josef Weber. The same Josef Weber I know?... Josef Weber’s a sweet old man I’ve known for a decade. If he’s a Nazi, honey, then I’m Lady Gaga.”(Picoult 97) Someone who is considerably different from who they appear to be may seem to contrast who they actually are. Our perceptions of someone can be easily clouded or manipulated by a few actions or a first impression. If an old man acts very jovial and …show more content…
contributes often to the community, you may see him as innocent and helpful. In reality, he may be something much worse, something you can not even fathom, all because of the way he is perceived. He may not receive the correct judgement because of the way he has acted and the side of himself that he has hidden. No matter how someone may seem, no matter how they are perceived, one must never be too quick to judge, because there might be a plethora you do not know.
Some people do not even view themselves in way that others would perceive them to be. People that are self-conscious feel as though they are on a stage,”...and the audience is scrutinizing [their] every step. Rationally, [they] know that everyone isn’t watching [them], but that’s how [they] feel...” Many people feel as though they are worthless, and that everyone around them is judging them, all because of how they view themselves. An abundance of society members view themselves in a much worse way than most of their peers perceives them to be. This is because they focus on the negative parts of themselves while others see the positive side of them. They can perceive themselves in a way that is completely different than most other people would see of them. Even the way that someone identifies himself can be infinitely different than how others around perceive themselves.
Society, as a whole, can regard a person to be a certain way and judge them accordingly, which can be catastrophic to the person’s mental health and creativity. In this story, ballerinas”...were burdened with sashweights and bags of birdshot, and their faces were masked, so that no one, seeing a free and graceful gesture or a pretty face, would feel like something the cat drug in.” The way that the ballerinas were perceived resulted in the harsh judgement, and in this case, punishment, all because of their adjudged talents and beauty.
This unfair judgement caused a decrease in creativity and innovation. Many people deal out judgement, often in a negative way, all because of the way they appear on the outside to

Our perceptions can manipulate the way we view and judge our peers. Some people can manipulate how they are seen by others to obtain a desired outcome of judgement and (overall view). A large part of society perceives themselves to be much worse than they actually are, and they judge themselves accordingly. A society as a whole may perceive persons to be a certain way and give judgement that can limit the creativity and innovation (of people). Do not be too quick to judge someone, as your perception is most likely incorrect judgement can be detrimental to their mental health, their creativity, and even to yourself.
