The Powers of Rhetoric
The German people let out blistering cries for Joseph Goebbels as he told them the importance of a total war, a war involving men, women, and children. War was riddling all of Europe and the German people completely supported the devastation they were causing to so many people. How had an established country in the 20th century come to this? In this dark period of history, Hitler manipulated German people to conform to his evil ideals through his powerful and convincing speaking.
Several leaders of the various divisions of the Third Reich were very influential with the German people, who eventually began to love them. Joseph Goebbels, a member of the …show more content…
Joseph Goebbels, minister of propaganda, was in charge of "enlightening" the German people and instilling a fierce nationalism. His job was to create a German population that believed it was being threatened by surrounding nations (Appleby). Although this may be contribute to Hitler's reputation as evil, there is another task given to the German people by Hitler that strengthened this reputation. That task is the infamous holocaust, the organized disposal of six million Jewish people. Hitler’s organized killing was one of the most brutal and treacherous things he ever led the German people to do on his behalf. His speaking had been powerful enough to lead a whole nation to murder innocent people for no reason other than to sustain the German people forever.
In this systematic murder he forced Jewish people to work until near death at labor camps. When they became too weak for forced labor, they were forced to pay their own fare to be transported to a Nazi death camp. Only Jewish children under the age of four did not have to pay a fare to travel to their own death. All of the money gathered for these train fares to Auschwitz and other leading death camps, such as treblinka, would total up to $25 million dollars (Irishexaminer.com). The treatment inside these nazi horror camps was awful for the Jews. They were often fed little to nothing at forced labor camps and were fed nothing at all at death camps.
