Judaism And Christianity Similarities

Founded between the years of 500 and 400 B.C.E., Judaism is a religion that is rich in history and still practiced today. In contrast, Christianity was “founded” upon the arrival of Christ, which was ca. 6 B.C.E. (Robinson & Rodrigues, 2014). In regard to religions that share the most significant similarities, Judaism and Christianity share the most significant similarities when compared to other religions. Yet, while they share several foundational similarities, they are radically different. Some of the significant similarities between Judaism and Christianity are God, patriarchs, and Moses. The differences that make Judaism and Christianity radically different are Jesus and performance. As previously stated, Judaism and Christianity share several significant similarities such as their view of God, patriarchs, and Moses. Both Judaism and Christianity view God in a monotheistic way. Christians believe that Jesus came to earth to live the perfect life and bear the entire wrath of God so that those who believe in Him can be saved. According to Christianity, Jesus is the Messiah. In direct contrast, Jews believe Jesus to have lived, but they do not see Him as the Messiah. This belief leads to the next significant difference. Christians believe they obtain their salvation through belief in the finished work of Jesus on the cross, and Jews base their view of salvation on their own performance.
