Do you, want to play a game? A game in the intense world of Jumanji. Where when you don't use your head or strategy karma will get you. Like with a lion or a monsoon or how about 30 ft snakes. Maybe a stampede of rhinos charging into your living room. And the only way to stop all of this is to finish the game and yell Jumanji! In the book Jumanji by Chris Van Allsburg. two siblings Peter and Judy are home alone. They decide that they want to go to the park, Peter finds a game with the label of JUMANJI With the child-like writing on the cover. They decide to bring it home after numerous warnings on the box and even with the instructions, they decided to play it. “seven,” said Judy. Peter moves his piece to the seventh square. “ ‘lion attacks, move back two spaces,’ ” Peter turns to see a lion sitting on the piano. They found out that whatever they roll in the game, happens in their house. But, the only to return the house to normality, is to finish the game and yell Jumanji! …show more content…

Also when they read the instructions it says fun for some but not for all. But when peter makes the first roll the action really begins. It starts with a lion which I described in my intro. We watched the Breakfast Club. One of the main character's name was Brian. He changed throughout the movie. At the beginning of the movie he was picked on a lot and no one cared about what he said. It was hard for him to talk to other students or try to say something, but they didn’t listen to them or tell them to shutup. When he was in the car his mom wanted him to study constantly. He was trying to be funny and did a weird pencil thing to be funny. People in his class did not laugh they just looked at him strangely.…

In the reading “Superman and Me” by Sherman Alexie, the author describes his own experience of how kids and himself were treated by society during his childhood for being part of a different background. In the reading I noticed how the author shows us ways that he has become the person he is by the influence of his family, particularly his dad who sparked his passion toward reading books. In my essay I implemented an additional family factor other than my father and sister; I included my brother. He impacted how I treat people that are constantly looked down by society. In addition, I have grown from my brother’s death and as an effect I have matured as a person and a writer.…

Admittedly, the documentary Taxi to the Dark Side, directed by Alex Gibney, was incredibly hard to watch. The imagery and narrative was completely overwhelming in its portrayal of the explicit human rights violations that were perpetrated by the US military and government in Afghanistan and Guantanamo bay. What directly comes to mind while viewing this documentary, is the blatant twisting of the American exceptionalism for political means. The democratic fundamentals of the American constitution, originally perpetuated the notion that the US was exceptional in its protection and emphasis of the Rule of Law and the rights of the individual protected within the constitution.…

In this very blunt poem, Edwin Brock describes five distinct eras in which death had taken place. It is also hinted how man has evolved in their methods to kill themselves. Each stanza represents a different time and place. This is ranged from the biblical era to the mid-twentieth century. Different phrases within the stanzas give away which era Brock is referring to. All of which have different meanings and a very unemotional tone to them.…

In After Virtue by Alasdair MacIntyre, he discusses the metaphor of a child playing a game of chess to help explain his theory on practices, internal goods, external goods, motivation, and virtues. In his example, a child is promised candy for participating in a game of chess each week, regardless of the child’s performance. However, if the child wins the game, which is not an easy feat, the child will be rewarded with extra candy. Though the situation being examined is not complex, it is very successful in presenting MacIntyre’s arguments.…

If a person is gay, there are always a couple of questions that one might ask: Was he or she born this way, and why is he or she gay? Scientists have been trying to come up with solutions to answer these questions. Some people think that it could be genetic as in one is born that way and has no control over being gay. Others say that one has control over being gay, because they argue that being gay is a choice that one person acquires later in life. In John Barrowman’s “The Making of Me,” he goes out on an exploration to try to figure out what actually makes him gay. During this exploration, he comes across some things that could be the answers to his questions.…
