Jumpstart Selection Checklist

To the Jumpstart Selection Committee, I came to the United States over three years ago from Vietnam. I have been taking ESL classes at Highline College more than two years and I am currently learning in level 4/5 class. I am living in Kent with my wife and my son. I have worked in Vietnam for 27 years for an import and export company and I am currently working for a Korean Mobil company as an accounting assistant. My long-term goal at Highline College is achieving the Accounting Class with an AAS degree, which will give me more opportunities to continue looking for a job is better as an accountant in the future. It will help navigate me to create a plan and accomplish that plan step by step. The potential obstacles I might encounter on my way to college such as the English language, there is no money to pay for tuition, lack of confidence in seeking help from other resources. Everything will be very difficult to overcome, that's why I was forced to find solutions for myself. Fortunately, the College Jumpstart Program will help me troubleshoot most of the issues that I mentioned above.
Through learning and searching, I found the College Jumpstart Program, which was exactly what I wanted.
I considered it as reaching my academic goals thanks to its own programs. It can help me gain more insight into English skills in listening, speaking, reading, writing, etc. If I pass my coursework I will qualify to move up to English 101 or 101 plus. It means step by step to help me continue towards my college goals. On the other hand, it also helps me to be more confident and very open about asking others for help when I can’t find the information or the resources which I need for myself in order to make my learning improve. Furthermore, I am grateful for this program because this is a course only open for students at Highline and
free. My academic strength is reading skills, which will help me to quickly understand the lesson as I read. My writing skills are average, but I can express the main idea and topic more clearly to readers about my own writing. In particular, I have the spirit of persistence, self-discipline, independent, and never give up. All of them will help me pass the course. My academic weaknesses are listening, speaking, and pronunciation skills. To overcome them, I always try my best to practice every day, anywhere and from any tool that I have, such as network addresses, software downloads, Sound, and playback from my own voice, listening to the radio, kinds of music, watching movies, and direct communication with others. In conclusion, the College Jumpstart Program is a privileged means only open for students currently ABE / ESL student at Highline School. It will help me perform my dream of college degree programs; I hope I will be one of the lucky ones to get approved by the Jumpstart Selection Committee to start my new journey.
