It is an important function because it helps to check the errors and to take the corrective action so that deviation from standards are minimized and stated goals of the organization are achieved in a desired manner.
According to modern concepts, control is a foreseeing action whereas earlier concept of control was used only when errors were detected. Control in management means setting standards, measuring actual performance and taking corrective action. Thus, control comprises these three main activities.

With the Houston Rockets and the Portland Trailblazers holding the first and second picks, who knew they’d be passing up the one who would eventually become the world’s greatest basketball player of all time. However, back then many other organizations overlooked his greatness. Jordan initially wanted to be featured on either the Adidas or Converse brand, but they weren’t as interested as he was. At that time, shoe endorsements did not have much impact in the marketplace, but Nike was desperate for any kind of hope to revitalize their struggling business. With Jordan’s likable personality, charisma, and heart, they noticed something special in him. Therefore, they offered him a 5-year contract worth 2.5 million dollars that he could not refuse. Michael Jordan was then officially signed to Nike, and this began the rise of the Air Jordan trademark.…

Controlling monitors performance and implements necessary changes (Bateman & Snell 2011, pg 16). Controlling is not in the sense that you have your thumb on everything and nothing is done unless you authorize it, which is called micromanaging. When you use control, you need to determine what it that you want to control. For example, if the team that you are leading is presenting a plan to the president of your company on a new product. You, as the leader have control on things like planning, organizing, use of company resources, personal assignments and monitoring the information presented. Thinking, Writing and Reading Rhetorically explains that the readings at the end of chapter 4 “…address the issue of outsourcing or offshoring, the business practice of moving jobs from developed countries like the United States to poor, developing like Mexico, China, and India. Outsourcing offers companies a large qualified workforce willing to work for lower wages and often more lenient environmental and safety regulations for factories” (p. 169). A controversial issue has been whether outsourcing has become a good or bad thing in the United States to the economy and the people who have jobs. On the one hand the cause of high unemployment has been because of outsourcing. From this perspective, outsourcing has become an issue due to the cause of unemployment and how the economy degraded. According to this view, as shown in the cartoon by Mike Lane, outsourcing has caused the loss of many workers jobs. Lane shows a worker that sees a sign on a closed factory stating, “Labor Day: This year’s picnic will be held in Mexico, where your job went.” (p. 175). On the other hand, however, others argue that outsourcing is good for the economy and is better for the people. As stated by Thomas Friedman, “But I am saying that there is more to outsourcing than just economics. There’s also geopolitics. It is inevitable in a networked world that our economy is going to shed low-wage, low-prestige jobs. To the extent that they go to places like India or Pakistan—where they are viewed as high-wage, high-prestige jobs—we make not only a more prosperous world, but a safer world for our own 20-year-olds” (p. 171).…
