Excellence describes a degree of doing things, a measure which surpasses most other attempts to do the same. It may be explained as supremacy in execution or fulfilment, especially when no earthly standard of comparison is involved. It always requires a human doing something or making decisions. There is choice in excellence. One may choose not to do, or behave excellently. Nature, for instance, does not have excellence; it is governed by natural laws, making no decisions influencing the outcome of things.

To his servants, he asked, ‘Can we find anyone like this - a man who has God's Spirit in him?’ Genesis chapter 41 verse 38. He was actually saying he knew of no one else filled with the Spirit of God. Pharaoh perceived in Joseph something extraordinary, the presence of the Holy Spirit. He somehow sensed Joseph’s driving force was from a higher authority. Hearing about the king’s predicament, the queen mother came to Belshazzar saying, ‘There is a man in your kingdom who has within him the spirit of the holy gods. During Nebuchadnezzar's reign, this man was found to have insight, understanding, and wisdom like that of the gods.’ Daniel chapter 5 verse 11. She continues in verse 12 saying, ‘Daniel … has exceptional ability and is filled with divine knowledge and understanding.’
Daniel was brought in before the king and where he explained the meaning of the writing on the wall. The very night after that, the Babylonian king was killed and Darius the Mede became king. Because of Daniel's great ability, Darius made plans to place him over the entire empire. ‘Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him.’ Daniel chapter 6 verse 3 (King James Version)
In conclusion, the Holy Spirit, living in Daniel, set him apart; it made him excel in everything he did. God’s Spirit causes excellence in every aspect of leadership; ordinary people become competent in ways unimaginable. Today the Holy Spirit permanently lives with and in us making it possible for Spirit filled people to be supernaturally excellent
