Keys to a Good Homework Habit

Make it a routine habit
Most of the students have always been looking forward for the right way to study and other the basic few tips like dedicate yourself and to memorize, the tips had mostly asked the college students to practically lock themselves away in a room, and learn till the material is well known. However, research has mostly shown that the suggested habits are actually detrimental and counterproductive.

The one tip that most of the articles suggest is making the homework a routine habit. This has multiple benefits because the student gets to study about the subject every day and also learns from the course. Secondly, the homework does not pile up till the end. Making it a routine habit in college becomes challenging especially because of the amount of distractions that are present. The first step towards this process is to make a timesheet which will be conducive for the following steps.

Set a specific time aside for homework
To be able to do work regularly, there has to be some form of discipline involved and the first step to achieve so is by creating a balanced time sheet that regularizes time between relaxation and study time. Too strict a time sheet, leaves the student exhausted and too casual one leaves no time for studies.

With college, becoming strong holds of competition, it is difficult to maintain merit if the student does not complete the assigned homework. More extensive than that of school, college homework require time and research. Therefore, to be able to complete them, it is essential to sort out a timesheet that will balance the requirement of the student.

Prioritize your homework
The third step is in identifying the priority of each homework that has been assigned to the individual student. Not only work needs to be delivered on the same day and therefore, time should be allocated accordingly. The time sheet helps in doing this.

Chapter 3 was about managing time. As students, we need to figure out where are time goes because we need to determine if it’s even going to the right activities that we do. We may not realize that habits of doing certain things at certain times are affecting our work. Therefore, we need to start prioritizing what needs to be done for our own good. In this case, its class work so we need to set up a schedule for ourselves that will help us manage our time much better and be more successful. The amount of energy we have when we do work affects it completely be it negative or positive. As students, we should know what brings us up and what brings us down and should get ourselves to the energy level that will help us better focus on the task at hand. We also tend to study for long periods of time without many breaks because of something that could be due the next day. In this chapter, it suggests that we study throughout the day so we wouldn’t have to deal with everything all at once, but instead piece by piece so we don’t stress out about much whenever it comes close to the time of taking it. procrastinating and distractions are also issues that we deal with and need to learn how to control what goes on around us. If we know certain things will distract us from our work, we should get in the habit of avoiding them or finding a place that we know we can completely focus on our work. Towards the end of the chapter, it talks about how to juggle family, school, and job responsibilities. It all comes down to scheduling our life to the point where we know exactly how much time each task requires and establish an efficient schedule so we do not worry about having sufficient time for each one.…

There are many theories to explain this, many arguing that the South never had a chance to win the Civil War to begin with, for the North out numbered and had better resources than the South at almost every point, militarily.…

One of the most important first steps is to learn about time management. Learning the strategies of a good time management system and applying them ultimately will benefit the student tremendously. Stanford (n.d.) states that time management skills will help students manage their goals effectively which will assist them in completing homework assignments on schedule and prepare for examinations. Students will have to monitor their time and adjust it accordingly for studies and assignments. While monitoring my time, I found it helpful in selecting the best times to study and complete my homework assignments. It is suggested that students spend at least two hours studying for every hour of class time. I personally plan on following this rule to give me adequate time to complete my assignments. Every student is different, but he can find a time management system that works best to balance school, work, and family. The planning system utilizing a list with prioritizing tasks as “A”, “B”, or “C” along with an “Outlook” calendar seems to work best. Students also need to learn how to set goals and to incorporate their short- term, mid-term and long-term goals into their academic lives. This will allow them to recognize how necessary their short-term goals are and how they affect their long-term goals. One cannot achieve long-term goals without first succeeding in their short-term goals. They go hand in hand. For example, a long-term goal is to get a BA degree, but I cannot accomplish this without first having success in my short-term goal of attending all classes and completing all work assignments on time. For success in another long-term goal of good health, I would need to be committed to eating healthy foods and not over eat because of stress. Exercising regularly and getting enough sleep regardless of other commitments will ensure students a refreshed and…
