1. In order to find the time for filling a rush order, we just need to sum up the amounts of time needed for each task:
6+2+1+9+5+2+1 = 26 min
2. If we can prepare one order in 26 minutes, it does not mean that it will take 52 minutes to prepare 2 orders. We can start preparing next order while the first one is in process.
26 min 10 min 10 min
If we assume that one order contains 1 dozen of cookies, we can calculate the number of orders by the following formula:
26 + 10(n-1) <= 4*60
10(n-1)<=214
n<=22.4
This means that the maximum number of orders is 22.
3. The tasks which I perform are washing the mixing bowl, mixing the ingredients, and dishing up the cookies.
My time = 6+2 = 8 min
My roommate’s tasks are putting cookies in the oven, removing cookies from the oven, packing them, and accepting payment.
Roommate’s time = 1+0+2+1 = 4 min
4. The variable costs of producing cookies include the cost of ingredients and boxes and labor cost. Regardless of the number of dozens, the cost of ingredients and boxes for each dozen will be the same. However, the working time will reduce.
To produce 1 dozen we need 12 labor minutes.
To produce 2 dozen:
6(wash and mix) + 2(spooning) + 1(putting to oven) + 2(spooning) + 1(putting to oven) + 2(packing) + 2(packing) + 1(accepting payment) = 17 min
To produce 3 dozen:
6(wash and mix) + 2(spooning) + 1(putting to oven) + 2(spooning) + 1(putting to oven) + 2(spooning) + 1(putting to oven) + 2(packing) + 2(packing) + 2(packing) + 1(accepting payment) = 22 min
If we assume that the cost of labor hour is $15 (cost of labor minute = $0.25), then:
