In the movie The Force Awakens, Rey injures Kylo Ren with her lightsaber creating a cut down his face. The injury splits Kylo Ren’s face similar to the way his mind is split between the light and the dark. Throughout The Last Jedi, Kylo Ren seems even more conflicted than in The Force Awakens, and he even forms a bond and helps Rey even though he was only trying to attempt to have her join his new power that will not be associated with the light or the dark. Additionally, Rey, the new representative of the light-side, gives Kylo Ren this mark making it seem like she is the one making Kylo Ren more balanced.
