SAFETY, EQUIPMENT, AND THE SCIENTIFIC METHOD

If I were to break a glass test tube while in the laboratory I would discard the broken glass in the designated broken glass container. I would make sure to put the glass in the properly labeled plastic or metal can with a sealing lid on it.
2. While in the laboratory, chemicals in a test tube shoot out the end of the test tube and into someone’s eyes. Explain the procedure that should be followed. (5 pts.) You would go to the eyewash fountain, flood both eyes for least 15-30 minutes with water. Flush from eye outward and make sure if you are wearing contacts to remove contacts before washing eyes. Always inform instructor of what has happened,
3. A student enters the laboratory setting and is getting ready to set up. What preparations should be made? (5 pts.) Student must have a clear surface and workspace, no water or food in the work area, tie hair back, rolls up sleeves if it is necessary. Make sure you are aware of where the fire extinguisher, safety shower, eyewash fountain, first aid kit, ventilation hood, flammable liquid storage cabinet, firm alarm and all exit locations are. Avoid all dangling jewelry and loose clothing. Make sure you read all labels of the chemicals you are using, and make sure you know how to operate all equipment before you use it. Must wear closed toe shoes and goggles.
4. A student spills chemicals on his or her skin. Explain the procedure that should be followed. (5 pts.) Rinse any spills on the skin immediately with continuously running water and soap. In the laboratory, notify your instructor of the situation.
