The Philippine Labor Law overall objective is to promote the well being and economic security of the workers. The State shall afford protection to labor, promote full employment, ensure equal work opportunities regardless of sex, race or creed and regulate the relations between worker and employers.
In 1987 Constitution, the prime duty of the government is to serve and protect the people. The state shall promote just and dynamic social order that will ensure the prosperity and independence of the nation and free the people from poverty through policies that provide adequate social services, promote full employment and a rising standard of living and an improved quality of life for all.
b. What is the Good that Law Seeks to Attain and Evil that Law Seeks to Avoid
The good that law seeks to achieve is to have a nation of empowered citizen where people help one another towards the prosperity and progress of the nation. The law will serve as the people’s motivation to do good, create good things and generate opportunities for the betterment of the country. The good that law seeks is not for the people to be afraid or terrified of its punishments but to be proactive in solving social problems. The law disciplines its constituents and teaches its people to be mindful of their actions. It promotes sense of accountability, eliminates selfishness, and encourages social responsibility.
Law can be corrupted, reinterpreted and misinterpreted as well as misused. Laws could be made for the benefit of a person or group of people. There are laws that are being made by our Congressmen to address their interest or their crony’s interest. Law can also be misused to justify one’s wrongdoings.
