They are said to have a friendly temperament and is remarked for being attached to their owners. However, even with their friendly attitude and demeanor they can become very aggressive towards their territory. This is the fact that leads society to label them as a bad breed of dogs. Your puppy will want to please you and will do what he can to make you happy. Mastiffs are sensitive, however, and respond best to positive reinforcement than they do to scolding. while treats make good training rewards, your Mastiff may enjoy big hugs and heaps of praise more. Though the breed is very trainable, these dogs need an owner who is loving but consistent and firm. Strong leadership during training and beyond is a must given the massive size of the breed.…

Here’s a little history on the American Pit Bull Terrior, dating back to late seventeen hundreds, the Pit Bull Terriors were used for bull baiting, hunting, and as family companions. When used as baiting dogs they were trained to latch on to the heads of bulls, bears, and other large animals. This was banned in the early eighteen hundreds and ever since then the notorious dog fighting had begun. Now, dog fighting has been banned and is a felony offense in all fifty states. Many dog breeds have been used for hunting and fighting, and are still used as family dogs today. For example, retrievers, pointers, spaniels, bulldogs and many more. These breeds were created…

Some of these breeds, shockingly, include Golden Retrievers, French Bulldogs, American Bulldogs, German Shepherds, and some cattle herding dogs. Of these 75 dog breeds, 4 are banned or restricted in a few counties in Georgia. In College Park Pit Bulls, Rottweilers, Dobermans, and German Shepherds are banned. In Dawson Pit Bulls are banned. Pit bulls are also banned in Floyd County as well as La Grange, Lawrenceville, and Terrell County. Notice how most counties have banned Pitt Bulls. They are banned because of what they are and not how they behave. This is unfair to the dog and the responsible dog owners. BSL becomes a major hiccup when it comes to guide dogs, therapy dogs, rescue dogs, and drug dogs. Pit bulls, Retrievers, and German Shepherds make excellent dogs for these titles, but they are all on the “dangerous” dog list for BSL. For instance, take this case in Northern Ireland where a bulldog Labrador mixed dog named Lennox had to be put down because he was on the “dangerous” list. He was this little girl’s therapy dog for 5 amazing years and had not bothered anyone. The court had the control to put down any dog that merely looked dangerous and so they did to Lennox, even with 200,000 signatures to petition not to kill him. The family did not even get to say goodbye to Lennox, rather they were sent his ashes in the mail. Despite this fact, organizations still use these dogs because of their…

A good dog owner is one that is willing to devote time, patience, and effort in the all-around wellbeing of their dog, no matter what the breed. In particular, Pit Bulls require a great deal of guidance, proper training, and understanding to bring out their best qualities (The Truth). With the Pit Bull breed socialization is most important, as with any dog a Pit Bull needs to be comfortable around people and other dogs. Proper socialization eliminates a dog’s anxiety and fearfulness of new people and surroundings. Along with socialization, consistent training is vital. When I was looking on the computer for a nice-looking breed of dog to have for a pet, I immediately fell in love with the American Pit Bull Terrier. They are absolutely adorable. I went to pick up two puppies that same day. When I got there, I was a little hesitant to enter the house. There was about huge blue pit-bull who weighed about a hundred and twenty pounds staring right at me. They assured me that it was fine to come in and as soon as I did, the big blue ox jumped right up on my chest and started to lick me. That is when I knew I had to have one. They are intimidating to people who don't know much about them, but are loyal to their owners. I bought two of them and loved them to death. They were the perfect pets. They make excellent guard dogs and know who is supposed to be on your property and who is not. I think that the…
