Lady Capulet, mother of Juliet, was not there for her.
She did not care much for Juliet and was not the role model Juliet needed at such a young age. When Juliet refused to marry Paris, Lord Capulet had a dreadful rant about Juliet that was far to terrifying for a girl of the age of thirteen years old. Lady Capulet watched from aside, and did nothing to help Juliet who was in desperate need to escape the harangue. After the verbal and physical attack, Lady Capulet spoke, “Talk not to me, for I’ll not speak a word. Do as thou wilt, for I have done with thee” (3.5.203-04). Lady Capulet was too frightened to stand up for Juliet. She was not a caring and thoughtful guardian. She was very self centered and never asked what Juliet really wanted. She believed that Paris was a handsome, mature man that she found interest in, so Juliet should marry him. Because of this bad parenting, it brought Juliet in a delicate, broken, and desperate state of mind. This inability to seek help lead to many consequences, including the death of Romeo and Juliet. Although, there was another supportive acquaintance who Juliet could turn to, the
Nurse.
As Juliet had no really close connections with anyone in the Capulets, she resorted to the Nurse. The Nurse was more of a parent to Juliet than Lord and Lady Capulet. She breastfed Juliet since she was an infant, and Juliet trusted her more than anyone. When Juliet’s parents both shamed Juliet, she is desperate for help and calls for the Nurse. After the shocking experience, the Nurse says “Romeo is banished, and all the world to nothing That he dares ne’er come back to challenge you. Or if he do, it needs must be by stealth. Then, since the case so stands as now it doth, I think it best you married with the County” (3.5.214-18). The Nurse wants Juliet to discard her marriage vows with Romeo and to marry Paris, as she is too scared to stand up for Juliet anymore. She abandoned Juliet when she needed her most. The Nurse was the only person that Juliet could share her feelings with, and now that that option was gone, Juliet was desperate for help. The Nurse knew the impact of this surprise wedding on Juliet, and did nothing to comfort her. For this reason, the Nurse was a contributor to the death of Romeo and Juliet. There are multiple more contributors to the death of these lovers, but Romeo created an even bigger conflict.
The murder of Tybalt acted by Romeo for vengeance of Mercutio's death was a vital contribution to the death of Romeo and Juliet. The relationship between Romeo and Juliet was strong, but very difficult to thrive as both lovers were from enemy families.
