Laggies Movie Analysis
Laggies basically talks about Megan’s life more about her high school sweetheart and her high school friends. Megan’s boyfriend, Anthony, proposes to her during her friend’s wedding but ended up being disappointed after seeing his dad cheating with another woman. This event had made her confused that she drove away where he met Annika and her friends. These group of teens asked her a favor to buy them drinks due to their minor ages. After helping Annika and her friends, she became closer to her and met her father, Craig. They later fell for each other that had made her to break up with her boyfriend and pursue her life with Craig. can be seen through her dilemma whether to travel with Anthony to Vegas and soon marry him or to stay in her hometown and be with Craig.
In the first part of the movie, we can see that Megan has a boyfriend named Anthony who was dear to her since her high school days. As stated in the approach avoidance conflict, there must be a positive valence and negative valence for the conflict to occur. One positive valence that can be seen in the movie which may push Megan to pursue a lifetime relationship with Anthony was that she already incurred so much memories with Anthony and has even been awarded as the best couple during her high school days. Another positive valence which confuses Megan even more was that she knows her boyfriend loves her so much. This can be seen through Anthony buying a ring and proposing to her which symbolizes his long time commitment to her.
Stating some of the positive valences, I would like to talk about some of the negative valences which leads her to decide not to marry Anthony.
Megan loved her boyfriend but becomes more doubtful of the commitment in marriage after seeing her father kissing another girl in the garden during her friend’s wedding. Her boyfriend always loves to bond with their high school group wherein she always feels lost and lagging behind due to the conversations which she cannot relate to. Her friends including Anthony seem to outgrow her which leads her to doubt the relationship she has with him realizing how she is living an unfulfilled life. Another negative impulse that really affected how Megan decides whether to marry her boyfriend or not is the time when she met Annika’s dad, Craig. She became confused with her feelings towards her boyfriend. Craig was the only person who was able to let Megan express her true self and frivolity. They have been together for a couple of days until one night Craig invited her to have some drinks and talk about their problems. This event had made them closer and their feelings towards each other became mutual.
Megan resolves the conflict by making a decision of whom to be with either to marry her long time boyfriend or stay with the guy whom she recently just met. She chooses to stay with Craig due to the fulfillment of life she knows she can constantly receive from him. She breaks up with her boyfriend when he tells her he will be sending their recently
taken picture to their high school friends which she feels uncomfortable with. She feels tied up to the whole group even when they should be having their own private time. She then breaks up with Anthony and drove back to Craig to end her life with him.
