This research related to the theory of M.A.K Halliday. According to Halliday (1973:222), investigation into the functions of language has often figured in linguistic research; there are possible reasons for wanting to gain some insight it’s how language is used. Halliday classified language function into seven parts, they are:

There are three ways to resolve a conflict:
1. Apologize
2. Offer to discuss the matter
3. Find a meditator
g. Giving Compliments and Replying compliments
We usually compliment someone if we notice something new about the person’s appearance: eyeglass, new haircut, new dress. There are three ways to give a compliment:
1. By say something nice about the object.
2. By asking how person made it or where it was bought.
3. By asking for another look or another serving (if it is food)
There are two basic ways to replying compliments: accepting them and rejecting them. In most occasions, it is better to accept compliment. When accepting compliments, the sentence may be:
A: That’s beautiful skirt you have on.
B: Thank you. I just got it yesterday
When returning compliment:
A: I just love your hair that way, did you do it yourself?
B: Oh thanks, Yes, I did. Isn’t it yours a new haircut too?
A: Yes, it is. Thanks

For example: “I agree completely with what you said in your lecture” or ”Yeah, that’s right. Dave”. The only way to get into trouble is by being insincere and only pretending to agree. A person who always agrees with someone else and never has a individual opinion is not respected. This is actually true in employer- employee relationships. There are two ways to disagree with someone: directly and indirectly.
Direct
Mary : The show finishes at ten o’clock.
Chuck : No, it doesn’t. They told me eleven.
Indirect
Mary : The show finishes at ten o’clock.
Chuck : Oh, really? That’s strange. They told me, it would be around eleven. If there are questioning about someone’s opinion or judgment, it is better to use indirect techniques, such as:
1. Turning a statement into a question: “are you sure?”
2. Agreeing with part of the other person’s idea: “I agree that X, but Y…”
3. Using introductory remarks: “ I could be wrong, but…”
j. Controlling the conversation
The expressions help to control the conversation or to guide the discussion. There are some expressions that shown:
1. Showing attention, understanding, or agreement.
Such expressions “Yes” or “Mm-hmm” indicate to other person that we are listening and we want the speaker to continue explaining his or her idea or opinion. Their main functions is to show polite attention and to encourage the other person to continue talking (1985:97)
2. Showing
