The two pieces of art called Las meninas by Picasso and Velázquez are two great pieces of art. The original one by Diego Velázquez was made in 1656 and Pablo Picasso made his rendition of Velázquez art in 1957. They also represent some same and different aspects that mean many things.The two pictures are similar in many ways. They both have the same name and were painted by famous people. The two pictures were also about a princess and had one in the picture. They also portray a meaning through art. Velázquez portrayed that there was many people waiting to help the princess that is why he named the painting “The ladies in waiting”. There were princesses incorporated into the picture because the painting was about the people helping the princess.There are a lot of ways that the pictures are different. The painting were in a different style of painting. Velázquez made his( the original) as a self portrait and a picture of the princess. He made it look like everyone was happy and calm. Picasso made his in his famous cubism style of art. They both also made their picture for different reasons. I believe that the reason Velázquez made his version was because the royal family of Spain at the time wanted a picture of the princess and they wanted Velázquez to do it because he was their royal painter. Picasso I think wanted to make his own unique painting that resembled something from his past. Velázquez also made himself incorporated into his own picture as self portrait and a royal painting. In Picasso's picture the girl is huge compared to the one in Velázquez work, there are also less people and only two people are in the entire picture. Also in Picasso’s work the colors are strange to be doing a picture of a person with.
