They are le ballet romantique, le ballet classique, le ballet moderne, and le ballet contemporain. (Ballet, 2017) Le ballet romantique, which was defined in the Romantic era, emphasizes intense emotion – romance, depression and fairy. In le ballet romantique, it usually expressed the women who enslaved the hearts and senses of mortal men. La Sylphide is the first ballet widely considered to le ballet romantique. As for le ballet classique, it is usually mixed up with le ballet romantique. There is no doubt that le ballet romantique and le ballet classique are similar. However, le ballet classique emphasizes more on les pas and les techniques than le ballet romantique. (Castle, 1996) For example, in the scene Pas de Quatre les Petites Cygnes à Le Lac des Cygens, the whole movement was composed with petit allegro, en pointe and passé. In the 20th century, le ballet moderne, also named as le ballet néo-classique, was appeared. Apollo is one of the famous les ballets modernes. It combined the classical ballet technique, but deviates from le ballet classique in emphasizing on the abstract.
