We’ve all been there, being a part of a team, whether it be for work, school, or an organized activity, and having at least one team member that wasn’t excited, in the work. The lack of excitement affects the entire morale and production of the entire team, especially if that person is supposed to be the team leader, or if the team leader does not instill motivation in all the team members. The motivation of a person is a combination of many things, but as stated in Freedom of Life there are two very big contributing factors 1) desire and 2) energy to reach the end goal.
“To influence somebody’s motivation means that you are able to make someone want to do what you need them to do—The US Army Handbook”
Why is motivation so important in a leader, boss, or superior? Motivational leaders, can influence motivation on their company and workers. By having the motivation a leader can ensure productivity and overall well-being of all involved. Worthy causes, interests, beliefs, and internal or external interests can all influence motivation in people. Being a good motivator leader can help use those motivators to better grasp his or her audience. Being a good motivator doesn’t mean you go up there and say a bunch of inspiring words, it’s the ability to connect with everyone in your group or team, and instilling that feel good do good emotion. There are many strategies one might use to make themselves an overall better more motivated leader I will describe the ones I believe are a fundamental base that anyone can use and build up. These principles are commonly used by the United States Army worldwide.
1) Be
2) Know
3) Do
“Be” refers to the being the leader you would follow, look up to, and respect, it also refers to leading by example, treat others the way you expect them to treat you and others. Be willing and able to accomplish the mission or task at hand to best of your ability. Be knowledgeable of what you’re doing,
