Well, there really is no one alternative that’s best for all processes and circumstances. Companies now really need a combination of tools and approaches. The one technique which can be implemented is Business process reengineering. It is the only process improvement approach that’s really had this focus in any substantial way, but it was flawed in other respects and is not a go-it-alone method of choice either. Companies like Air products and chemicals, which had one of the most successful process change programs in recent years, the company employed a hybrid approach to process change that closely matched the SAP system it was put in at the time. The shell has a major effort underway to put in a common version of SAP and improve processes at the same time. It isn't easy to change both things at once, but it's silly to change processes and ignore IT. What is Hybrid IT? Hybrid IT is an approach to enterprise computing in which an organization provides and manages some information technology (IT) resources in-house but uses cloud-based services for others. A hybrid approach allows an enterprise to maintain a centralized approach to IT governance, while experimenting with cloud computing.
The three main forces drive the adoption of Hybrid IT:
• An enterprise needs to maintain control of data, the cost of effectiveness of cloud components such as software as a service and storage as a service and the desire for an IT department to respond as quickly as possible to rapidly changing business needs.
